Is a Co-sleeper Worth It?

I plan on co-sleeping with my next baby, like I did with my daughter. We used the Pack and Play bassinet with her, at least for naps and the beginning of the night. After the first time she woke up, I'd put her in bed with us for the rest of the night. It was just so much easier to nurse! I plan on doing the exact same thing with the next one. My only concern is that this baby is due in July and I'm afraid it will just be too hot for all of us to be snuggled up in bed together. I was thinking about trying to find a co-sleeper that attaches to the bed. My theory is that it will give us all a little bit more room. I know they are really expensive and was hoping to find a used one somewhere. Is that a good idea?

Let me add...I know that lots of you have strong opinions about co-sleeping. To be totally honest, I don't want to hear them. If you are against co-sleeping..fine, but please don't berate me and my parenting choices. I know all the information out there to support both sides, so I don't need you to try to convince me not to sleep with my child. I will be co-sleeping, so you'll just me wasting my time and yours. I am only looking for responses from people that have had experience using a co-sleeper. So, please save your preaching for someone else.

What can I do next?

I co slept with all three of my daughters, until around their 1st birthday. I used a bassinette next to the bed all three times. This way, if you find it is a little too hot, you can always put the baby back, yet have your hand there to soothe her. I was always at arms reach that way, especially when all the baby needed was a soothing hand to go back to sleep. With having a/c, even just in the bedroom, I never found that it was too hot to have the baby in bed with me.

Good luck & happy co-sleeping!

Personally I think cosleepers are great! My only concern is that most of them are currently recalled due to babies getting caught in the extra padding when it is made into the cosleeper. My best friend just had a baby, and was looking everywhere to replace her cosleeper that had been recalled and she couldn't find ANY that were currently being sold that weren't rediculously overpriced.
I would say if you can find one for a good price, great! If not, I did what you did with my first three, only had the cosleeper for #4, and it worked out wonderfully for us, we actually only got the cosleeper because it was a gift from my mom who wanted us to have something really nice with our last baby, we also had kids in our bed periodically, so the cosleeper helped with me not having to worry so much!
Good Luck with #2!

I've never used a co-sleeper, but I did do (almost) the same sleeping arrangement for nighttime feedings, and I do agree that it is much easier to nurse that way. My only thought on a co-sleeper is that it attaches to your side of the bed. What happens if you little one needs to nurse on the oposite side of your body? How will that work? I am honestly curious because it sounds like big sister is still in your bed, and unless moving her is an option, you'll have to consider how baby will nurse from the side that doesn't face the co-sleeper.

Shaun, I am with you. You will do what you feel is best for your family. I co slept with my last child. He is almost eight and still comes into our bed nightly. But for your situation,I suggest buying a double size inflatable bed. We had purchased one at J.C.Penneys for $49.00. It is the same height as a standard mattress and pushed at the side of your bed extends it to a more comfortable family sleeping arrangement. I had purschased sand bag weights and covered them with body pillow sheets to put at the side of the bed. These new air inflated beds are great to use and safe. You use regular size sheets to cover them. They are firm as a mattress and can be stored and used for guest or sleepovers when your child gets older. God Bless you and good luck on your little angel.L. P.

Hi, i co-slept with all my babies and my son was born in july and never had any issues with being too hot. We only had a full size bed so really no room for any co-sleeper bed things. My only prob with co-sleeping is getting him out of my bed now LOL But I do love waking up to his face every morning!!!Good Luck

Shaun,

We used a moses basket with my son. It was a little more intimate than a bassinette. We even put the basket between my husband and I when he wasn't in the bed with us. I know it's not exactly what you're asking about, but it might be a cheaper way to go.

We no longer co-sleep because I'm such a light sleeper - we don't even let our cat and dog in the room with us because I'll wake up at the smallest whimper.

Good luck to you,
J.

I just wanted to tell you that I had my daughter in May and she co-sleep with us. It was really never to hot. Unless you do not have air condition I would not be worried about it being to hot. Though a co-sleeper is great way my sister-in-law used it for two of her three kids. I think that you should check out ebay I just checked them out and found one for 50 on there. I do not think it is a bad idea to use a used one. I would! Just make sure that it is all there and that there has not been a recall on it. Here are a few links to the ones I found on ebay....
