Is a "Bundle Me" the Best Way to Go for Walks in the Cold?

HI Moms!
I am wondering if a "Bundle me" stroller seat cover is the only thing to get to keep my one-year old warm in her stroller when we walk outside this winter. It seems to be the only brand I can find online. I'm also wondering if you all feel it's necessary to have one of these for the baby in the stroller. We have a Chicco "cortina" travel system stroller--very common stroller--doe the Bundle Me fit easily into the stroller? How much do you use it, if you have one? Thank you very much!

So What Happened?

Wow! Thanks so much to everyone for the tips--I appreciate all the winter advice. The pros and cons for the Bundle Me seem about even, so I'm still undecided. But I do think I might try to get one on craigslist instead of brand new, that was a good idea! Thanks again.

in a few months your child will be walking and exploring. Buy a snow suit for outside time. It's best if the snow pants are a seperate piece from the coat so that you only have to put them on if there is snow.

For that age child you are really not looking at the appropriate item. You will be restricting her movements and she should be moving all on her own whenever possible now.

BTW, I do daycare and have numerous toddlers in care every year and we go out every day it's over 25 degrees.

You should also buy boots, a size bigger then the shoe size. Since she is only 11 mos old you may want to get two pairs one a size bigger, one two sizes bigger.

You'll also want a hat that velcros under the chin, mittens (look for ones that open and velcro shut on the back of the hand). Then your child will enjoy WALKING instead of being inside a bundle and not seeing anything or getting any exercise.

We have the same stroller as you and the bundle me fits perfectly into it. When my son was too big for the infant carrier, we bought the toddler version of the bundle me which fits onto the stroller itself and is truely wonderful. I still use a winter hat with it :) I think you will like it too....

The Bundle Me Rocks and it was one of those "have to have" products for my first winter here. My son was born in December here during our first winter and it was a total lifesaver. I didn't have to worry about him being cold at all in his carseat when we went to his appointments and ran errands etc. Sometimes he was even sweating it kept him so warm. I didn't use it for him the next winter (didn't know they had toddler ones) but now I know and maybe I will get one!! :)

First of all, welcome to the great Midwest! Our winters can be quite chilling (like last year) and a Bundleme is wonderful. We take frequent walks year round and the Bundleme simply makes life easier. No hassles with blankets. I will say we used ours on our jogger, which we do not travel with so the Bundleme stayed permanently attached. We simply put a coat, hat on our baby and zipped her in to the Bundleme. She stayed snuggly warm. Now that she is 3, we STILL use it.

Bundle me is great for babies, but if your girl is walking or will be walking soon, she may not want to ride too much in the winter unless you're on your way to someplace. They are great - I got mine for $25 off Craigslist. I suggest you look there for one, since you'll only use it for a short period of time. I used it last winter when my baby was 4-9 months old, but this year she's 16 months old already and I will just dress her in a snowsuit so she can walk around.

We also have the Chico Cortina stroller. My son is now two and have used the Bundle me for the stroller since he was 8 months old. I love it. When the weather got really, really cold I would dress him warmly, then when we got into the stroller I would zip up the bundle me, then put a rain cover over the stroller. My son was never cold. Even when it was single digits I would get put on his hat and gloves and he was always warm. The stroller folded too so I never took it off. I would highly reccommend it.

I used layered blankets when taking my baby for a walk. I dressed the baby in a coat and hat and blankets. Some of those bundle things can get pretty expensive and you use them for such a short amount of time. I think your money would be better spent elsewhere.

I never used my bundle me. Instead, I put my daughter in a warm coat/snow suit and threw a wool blanket on top of her. We go for daily walks throughout the whole winter.

My little girl is walking but I have a bundle me for her. I have a borrowed and new bundle me for when she was a baby and just purchased the arctic bundle me for toddlers. I walk the dogs a lot and she goes with and I always check her body temp and she stays nice and toasty. I put a heavy sweater over her shirt, hat and mittens. I love this one b/c it is so thick and is like a sleeping bag.

There is also another blanket type cover made by Kiddopotamus that is just elastic that fits over the entire top of the carseat that has a peep hole for the babies head. That one is sold at Babies R Us too. I also found another type on line at Babbaco.com but they are more pricy but may give more warmth when walking and keeping babys head covered.
