Hello Mamasource Moms-
I have 2 questions. 1st- Does anyone know how to get wax out of carpet? Yesterday I was cleaning and knocked a big red candle off my dresser and the wax went all over my cream colored carpet and my mattress (thankfully I had the sheets in the laundry) Does anyone have any good ideas on how to get it out? I tried scraping it with a knife...big mistake.
2nd I want to make my husband a travle size pillow case with pictures of myself and my daughter on it to take with him to Iraq....is that possible? Can I iron on to somehow transfer pictures to the fabric? I want this to be usable so I dont want to insert them in a picket or something. I was refered to a website daddydolls.com but they only put one picture on it and I thought it might be fun to customize it. Thanks in advance for your help!

N.,
After my dad died we wanted to put pictures of the kids with him on their pillows. There's a small shop in the lower level of the Burnsville Center. We had a picture put on each side. It's been about 3 years and I've washed them (inside out) and the pictures still look the same.
Best of luck!

Hi N.-

I've used an iron over a brown paper bag to remove candle wax from carpeting before. I'd recommend having a second paper bag to run the iron over once you're done, just to make sure that all of the wax is completely off of your iron before you need to use it for clothing. A lesson I learned the hard way. : )

For the pillowcase, have you tried snapfish.com or shutterfly.com? There are other, similar sites, too. I think they can do what you're talking about doing- multiple photos onto fabric. Not sure whether they'd do a travel pillow or not, but might be worth checking.

Good luck!

M.

My daughter got slime in my carpet. I couldn't get it out so I cut it out. And to my surprise you couldn't tell the carpet was cut at all. It looked way better than a green spot. You really couldn't tell at all.

HI!
Love your idea of a travel pillow with pix. I did a quilt for my daughter. You can get fabric that you print the pictures on. Then you wash the fabric, and you can sew with it. I found it at Joann's and Hancock Fabrics. I think it was $7.99 for 3 8.5X11 sheets. That was a few years ago though. Have fun with it! It's a great idea. He'll love it.

Pictures on a pillow case. If you have a computer digital photos an ink jet printer and an Iron you are in business. go to office max, office depot wal-mart or target and buy heat transfer paper. Follow the directions on the package. You can put as many pictures as you want on the pillow case. If you would like me to do this for you I would be glad to.

Put newspaper over the wax and then iron it. The heat from the iron will melt the wax and the newspaper will soak it up. Just make sure not to use too high of a setting or you could melt the carpet.

I don't know about the wax, but I just made some t-shirts for my niece and nephew and used a Avery product I purchased at Target. I just printed some photos from my computer onto the special paper, and ironed them onto the shirts. I think as long as your pillow case is cotton, it should work just fine.

Good luck to you!

I haven't read the other responses, so I apologize if this is a repeat..

Anyway, I don't know about how to get the wax out, but if it proves impossible, sometimes you can cut a little square of carpet out of someplace like a closet and cut out a square of carpet around the stain and then just swap them.

About the pillow...very easy! Joann's sells fabric you can put through your printer. It's in the aisle with the other iron on transfers. At the one in Edina, it's way down near the floor so you might have to look carefully to find it. They have it with several different kinds of fabrics. There's usually a 40% off coupon in the Sunday paper, too.

WAX REMOVAL:
Place a brown paper grocery bag on the wax and iron, moving the bag as wax is absorbed.

PILLOWCASE:
Why don't you create your own image, using all the photos you love? Make prints of your favorite images and cut them up to make a montage of your favorites. It would be a fun project for you to put together in your free time. You can either scan the new image to send to the website or you can take your newly created image and get it scanned at a copy center or you might be able to send the new image you've created directly to the website, depending on size restraints they might have.
