iPad 2 For Parents?

My siblings and I are thinking of going in on an iPad 2 for my parents. We have since been told we'd be better off getting the Kindle Fire because it has much of what Apple offers but w/o the big price tag. Any thoughts? Does anyone have parents who like and use the iPad? They are currently PC users, but I think they would love the ease of Apple. I don't have an iPad, but everyone I know with one LOVES it. Finally, if you do think the iPad is the way to go, any thoughts on which to get -- the 16, 32 or 64 GB? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I have one and so do my parents. They do google talk in video with the kids all the time with it!

The only issue I have found is that mamapidia is not apple product friendly and I get ads in weird places. That is it.

I'm a bigger fan of the Kindle because of the way the screen is (reduces eye strain). The iPad has all the bells n whistles with Apple apps. So, it all depends on what they'd be using the product for. If one of the big draws would be ebooks (vs using it as a laptop computer/giant cell phone), I recommend the Kindle. If they'd be using it like a laptop more specificially for the apps, then the iPad.

I pre-ordered a Kindle for my dad. Ended up cancelling it and buying the Pad. For starters, older folks need a bigger screen. My dad wanted a small pad, but after borrowing our iPad, he was sold.

Second, my hubby is in technology. No one is making pads that are as nice as the iPad. We shall see how the Kindle does, but if you have enough cash to buy the iPad, it's a nice safe bet.

Just get the basic iPad, the one that sells for $499. There were some specials on black Friday, specially, Apple had $50 off and Meijer had a $75 GC deal. Not sure if there will be other good offers before xmas, but you might want to keep your eye on those two places (Target had some deals too, but they weren't very good).

I don't know much about the kindle, but my husband loves his iPad. One of the best features is the webcam, because we can skype when he is out of town. The kids love to see daddy when they talk to him. I could imagine grandparents and grandkids loving this too.
