So What Happened?

I got a safe and "green" product called Sol-U-Mel from a company called Meulaluca and it took it right out. That product is fabulous.... thanks to all of the great suggestions, especially those that suggested this product!

Hairspray. The old fashioned aerosol kind. I remember this from my high school days. Just drench the ink in hairspray then wash in the machine. It always worked for me.

Soak in a bowl of acetone for a while, rinse and repeat until the ink fades, lightens, or disappears. Once it fades or lightens, I use liquid Clorax bleach (for colors) and rub into the stain until you are ready to wash. If the stain is still very obvious after soaking in acetone, I would soak it in straight Clorax bleach (for colors)until you are ready to wash.

Try spraying it with hairspray, let it dry, then wash as normal, check to see if stain is out before putting in dryer.
Good Luck!

I have found a soap bar, called a Bella Bar, that I use to get stains out of clothes. I have never tried it on ink myself, but I know someone who used it to get permanent marker out of carpet before.

It is not something you can buy in a store though. If you want to try it, I can help you get one.

Liquid carpet cleaner. You know, the kind that you put in your rug machine? Works everytime.

It may sound crazy, but hairspray is the best thing I've found for getting ink out of clothes - the cheeper the better. I keep a can from Dollar General on hand for just such "laundry disasters."

M.,

This has happened to me more than once, get the cheap pump hair spray. The nice thing about this is it won't change the color of your clothing and it is cheap.

Good luck.

Hi M.,

I shop wholesale with a fabulous online company that has a cleaner called Solumel. It will get permanent market out of clothing, off walls and just about anything else. They also have a spot remover called Prespot. I LOVE the cleaning products because they are non-toxic and will not hurt me or my family like the majority of the cleaning products you buy elsewhere. Give me a shout and I can tell you how to open your very own account with them.

Rubbing alcohol! You may have to treat and rinse a few times, but it should get it out. Oh, make sure you treat it from the back of the stain, not the front and work around the edges first.

If it's ball point ink, spray regular old hairspray on it and rub it. Then put in wash immediately and wash as usual. If it's gel or any other kind of ink, use something called "Ink Away". I found it in the grocery store among the specialty cleaners (like silver polish). It's in a white bottle. It works very well along with a spritz of Spray & Wash. But be sure to wash right away after you treat the stain. Take my word for it--I have experience!

Hi M.,

Hairspray works great on ink!! As soon as u see the ink spray it with a lot of hairspray and wash that one item immediately, wash it alone so the ink does not get on other items. I also use goo-gone on spaghetti sauce and make-up, goo-gone works wonders.

Hope the ink comes out : )

The best and cheapest thing is hairspray - even for dried ink. The 99 cent variety does the trick. Just spray and scratch with a nail.

I've had this happen to me. I washed a load of my scrubs for work with a pen in the pocket. I didn't realize it until after I took my scrubs out of the dryer. There wasn't anything that didn't have ink on it.
Go to Walgreen's and get some acetone. You'll find it right next to the nail poish remover. Be careful about the surface you do this on - acetone will take the varnish off from furniture too - if your table is wood protect it with a plastic table cloth. next place an old towel on the table. Lay the garment out flat on the towel. Now grab a rag soaked in the acetone and blot the ink stain out. You might have to blot a couple of times until the ink is gone. Once the ink is removed wash the clothing again.
