Hi E.,

I had an inguinal hernia during my 2nd pregnancy. I was around 28 weeks pregnant and they didn't want me to wait to fix it. So at 29 weeks pregnant I did the surgery and had no problems with my pregnancy after. I was very sore for about five days after because I didn't want to take strong medication. I did have a c-section but it wasn't due to the hernia, my first pregnacy I had to have a c-section so I had just opted to do another one. It was scary to think I had to have surgery when I was pregnant, but all my drs. reasured me that it was a very safe procedure to do. Good luck to your sister-in-law and I hope this helps.

W.

I am 31 weeks pregnant and was diagnosed with a double inguinal hernia at 28 weeks. Because one of the hernias was painful and severe, I was put on modified bedrest for 2 weeks and then had surgery to repair it. It was stressful and nerve racking to have surgery this far along in my pregnancy but it all went smoothly. I will remain on modified bedrest for a few more weeks. According tgo my OB, it may still be possible to have a vaginal delivery if the repaired hernia heals properly and the second hernia does not get any worse. I don't understand how this will be possible because it seems straining and pressure of labor would be dangerous for the hernias. My husnad and I are doing our own research to decide whether or not to opt for a c-section. Good Luck!!!!
