Our home owners policy has been cancelled due to the fact that I have a home daycare. My agent is having trouble finding someone to insure us for more than 3 children. Does anyone have any ideas or information on this. I could sure use some guidance. I have been doing this for 6 years and it seems to be my calling. I seem to have the patience and mentality for this job.

What can I do next?

When I did home daycare through the military I used two different companies... First I used State Farm and they insured for up to 6 children, they had to send out my policy to an underwriter and I had up to $300,000 liability for each child. Then I ended up changing to American Family insurance as it was cheaper and again they just had to send my policy out to an underwriter and my policy was updated to also include my vehicles for both daycare use and personal use... Was very inexpensive... The daycare only changed my insurance rates by about $30 a month! Also if you are a military provider you can always contact the child care office on base and they should be able to refer you to some other insurance carriers! Good luck!

i did home daycare for the us navy and we had insurance through Morgan & Associates and there's also Wilcox & Associates. it wasn't homeowner's insurance, it was in addition to regular insurance. i don't know whether or not they provide for civilian childcare or if it's just a military thing, but i thought about it and wanted to let you know.

If you love doing that kind of job then you have to move it outside your home. Daycare is a buisness and your home is your home.... so you can't have the same kind of insurance for both. you have to have business insurance for the buisness and home owners insurance for your home. If you want to keep the buisness in your home you have to look for buisness insurance... then you can have coverage for your home.

Having a daycare is a BIG liability for an insurance company on your Homeowners policy. You may need to get a supplimentaly General Liability policy for your business (day care). If you need assistance give me a call BROOKE INSURANCE ###-###-####. Please don't wait to long to get coverage on your home, many companies decline coverage with more than 30 days lapse in coverage.

I would also like information on this because I'm getting ready to start a day care center in my home this summer.

I currently work in a different type of insurance. I know Thomco is a major daycare insurer. Haven't looked into it yet myself.

I know there's an association of day care providers in the area and am planning to ask them about the options. I definitely want to have the insurance even though it's not required.

Sorry, but I don't agree with the recommendation about moving your business out of your house. Home day cares are a thriving industry.
