Info About Irving/Dallas/Richardson and Austin/Round Rock Area

I have lived in the Dallas area all of my life - Plano, Richardson, Carrollton, Rockwall, Dallas, Denton, Farmers Branch, Mesquite and Duncanville. I've attended Richardson & Plano schools.

Stay away from Richardson, Dallas and Irving School districts. Look into the outlying areas such as Plano, McKinney, Allen or Rockwall - all have strong school districts. I've heard good things about Grapevine, but I have no personal experience to speak from. Flower Mound and Frisco are surrounded by highways - just too many businesses and traffic in too small of an area.

I think I would go to Austin WAY before I would come to Dallas - there is nothing to do here but eat & shop.

Richardson school districts are very strong. The neighborhoods vary from apartment mixed with houses, to just single family neighborhoods. There is even reasonable public transportation.

In Austin, The Jollyville area is still AISD - Austin Independent School District.. the schools in that area and surrounding areas are all Excellent.
You will not have to worry about that,

Please drive a little bit further north to the Flower Mound area. They are a separate little town that has the most awesome atmosphere. I have an aunt that lives there and it's just a wonderful little town. It's minutes from Dallas and such a nice drive.

I'd also say that the area is a bit more affluent too.

I live in Georgetown, and really love the area! We've been here for 20 years now, following a corporate transfer back in '92.

The Georgetown schools are rated very highly, and you are near enough to Austin that you can go in easily for work or events.

Georgetown really has a "community" feel, rather than a "bedroom community". It is the county seat of Williamson county, and tends to be pretty strict on safety and such. I'm sure the home prices would be much better than Austin and Round Rock.

I've lived in the DFW metroplex for nine years and really love it. My exact location is in between Lewisville and Denton in a smaller area called Corinth...it's one hour south of the OK border. Anyway, not really recommending you move to my area specifically just because it would be a decent commute up and down a pretty busy I-35E every day. But a little further south in the area of Flower Mound and Grapevine/Coppell is nice with highly regarded schools. As far as it being busy, it's hard to find too many areas in the DFW metroplex that aren't busy, it's the nature of a growing city. Can't really tell you much about Austin other than I have met some really strange people from there! LOL But, if you are going to be traveling back to OK to see family (not sure if you will) then obviously the Dallas area will make that trip much shorter.
