Infant Baby Book

I really like the Pregnancy Book and the Baby Book by Dr. Sears. Everything in the Sears parenting library is quality, and I have really been helped by them.

I know she's not at this point yet, but it's when they hit the terrible two's that I struggled. Thus my recommendation is John Rosemond's Making the Terrible Twos Terrific.

I like "What to Expect the First Year". It's in the same line of "What to Expect When You're Expecting" which might also be helpful. On a side note, if your daughter still needs to finish high school, she might want to consider going online at Virtual Community School of Ohio. Medical books are often outdated before they're even published.

But, there are a lot of great websites that she can subscribe to free (BabyCenter.com, AmericanPregnancy.org, Baby Zone, etc.).

Type pregnancy into Google, and you'll have a wealth of sites available to you. I'd focus more on those endorsed by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (acog.org didn't have a good pregnancy planner that I could see), WebMD, MayoClinic.org, etc.
Your OB/GYN may also be able to recommend some good sites.

I didn't care for the 'what to expect...' books but that (apparently) is just me. I really liked the birth/pregnancy/baby books from Dr.Sears. His Baby Book was my second bible with my daughter.

I agree, "What to Expect When You Turn Over Your Body and Your Experience to the All-mighty OB" is just one big scare-tactic to keep OBs in the business of the midwives' job...Bad book.

Also, "The thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth" by Henci Goer is great but not a week-by-week kind of guide to pregnancy.

She will definitely like reading "Belly Laughs" by Jenny McCarthy. Actually, you will probably get a laugh out of it too. lol :)

Baby 411 and Toddler 411 have been my savior for 3 years. clear and understandable words written for non doctors

Get ahold of PBS' Nova: The Miracle of Life DVD. It is an amazing look at conception through detailed fetal development through the birth process. It will help your daughter understand her child's development now, week by week, and assist in understanding the mysterious, miraculous process. It is a MUST for all expectant parents, but especially young parents. Your local library may have the DVD available or it is on Amazon or shoppbs.org. I've given it as a gift to expectant friends over the years and now to expectant grandparents. You won't be disappointed!

I like "Great Expectations" By Sandy Jones and Marcie Jones. I kike that it does not go through all the problems you could have in the weekly section but has a seperate section for that.

By far my favorite pregnancy book is.. "Watch me grow". It is weekly book written first person from the babies perspective. It also is filled with Photos at ever week of 3d ultrasounds so you are really watching the babies grow. It tells you what is going on with the baby, what is developing, and what they are starting to experiance. I love it and now with my second pregnancy I am sharing it with our four year old. It has made it real to him. He likes to read about his "sister or brother" Our whole family like to read this one.

I loved What to Expect when You're Expecting. Nice helpful information and lots of encouragement. Plus it's nice that they have a separate section in the back for complications and problems so the information is there but you don't scare yourself reading about problems you don't have. They have a nice website too.

I'm with Shannon S. in thinking that the "What to expect" books are a load of garbage. I would go with anything by Dr. Sears. You can check out his website at www.askdrsears.com .

I just bought the first two yesterday and the woman I nanny for has the third one. I have only scanned them at this point, but they seem to be VERY helpful in every situation.

I really enjoyed the "What to expect when you're expecting" book. They were pretty spot on with information.

I think what to expect when you are expecting and the one that follows it post birth in the same series are good. They are pretty straight forward and fill you in on what your child should be doing developmentally.

What to expect when expecting - there are several additions to those as well, another I likes was the girlfriend's guide to pregancy ( I am almost certain that is the name), I don't have authors, but you can google them!

I loved the traditional books - What to Expect When you are Expecting. For a first time mom, it gave a fantastic month by month what was going on with your body and what to expect for next month.
