Hi A.,

We like to go to the playgrounds, ride bikes at the parks or bike trails and go to the beach. You can also sign up at www.babyzone.com (or ParentZone for older kids) and look for local events and resources. It has an event calendar that lists things like children's book readings at Barnes & Noble, etc.

There are a million great, inexpensive things to do with children here. If the zoo, museums, etc cost too much, try park hopping. There are so many wonderful public parks on the website...(not sure what website, Jacksonville Parks and Recreation) but do a search or look in the phone book for a list of all the parks. You will always find other Moms and children to talk to and you could probably make new friends. It's FREE! There is an annual butterfly festival that is free and the public libraries have a lot of cool programs. Also get a hold of the local Parenting Magazine, Folio and Skirt available at local places like Starbucks, Library, The Loop, different places. Good Luck! Hope you like it here.

Hi A.. Initially, my suggestion is not inexpensive but pays off in the end. Buy a family membership package to the zoo. I take my teens and my 6 year old all the time and we love it. Because we go so often, we spend as much time as we want in some areas and skip others. The next time we go, we spend time in the areas we skipped before. There is a great water and play park in the summer and the zoo never bores the kids. Last summer we went 3 times in one week! All that walking provdes a great chance for conversation with the teens also.

I've got a 5 year old and an almost 3 year old and we go to the parks alot!!! We go to the one on Kingsley and to the one in Foxmeadows (a neighborhood park by us. Also, there is a State park Gold Head I believe and it's only about $3 to get in and it has a playground, picnic area, lake for swimming, and cabins for camping.

I also second the zoo package we don't have a membership but we're thinking about it. Go to coj.net and they list a lot of free things and list a lot of activities for the month and I'm sure you'll find something. Welcome to Orange Park!!!

Hi A.,

I was going to suggest the park hopping too. There is one on Argyle Forest Bv (Chimney Lakes where the gazebo is). The one on Kingsley Ave, Tanglewood Bv (Jefferson Ave), Evergreen Ave (Greenwood), in downtown Green Cove Springs off Hwy 17 take a left on one of the little streets near Orange Ave, its awesome, there is one off Sandridge rd off 739 in Lake Asbury. I did those parks with my daycare kids last spring break and they absolutely loved it, we took pic nics every day. There is also an indoor toddler play area at Moody and Filmore or Bolton by the back of the old Wal Mart.
