Hi,

Help! I need the thrifty momma experts out there : ) Both my kids have grown out of their pants. My son is so much taller than my daugher I can't even let her use his hand-me-down jeans yet. Does anyone know a decent, inexpensive place to go for kids bottoms? For what I'll need to buy, I can't really afford to pay $12+ a pair. I know Wal-Mart usually has Garanimals for not too much, but I don't want them to just live in sweat pants either.

Thanks Mommas!!!

What can I do next?

I like Target and Kohls clothing. My daughters are tall and skinny, so things get too short before they are outgrown. I find that Walmart clothing shrinks too much to be worth the savings. Since I have twins, I shop the end of season sales in the next 2 sizes up and save the clothing for the next year. It has been a tremendous savings, especially on coats. Hope this helps.

I've had some luck at Once upon a Child--although sometimes older kids clothes get pretty worn so you really have to search. Do you have any friends that have kids older than yours? Maybe hit them up for some hand-me-downs. Other than that, I've found jeans and other reasonable clothes at JCPenney or Kohls. If you can catch a sale and use coupons, you can get some pretty good deals.

Hi L.,

I am a mother of twins and my club runs a resale. I pick up a lot of clothes and toys there for my kids, at really reasonable prices. They have strict rules about not selling cothing that is stained, torn, etc. Most of the clothes I actually fine are medium to high end, old navy, ralph lauren. It saves me a ton and some even have the tag still on it. There is one next weekend.

Here is the info if interersted.

Try JC Penny and Target. I recently got my daughter 2 complete outfits (pants and shirt each) for fall for $15 at Penny's.

I got a bunch of pants for my 4 yr old at JCPenney for about $6 - cannot remember the brand, they were folded on a tiered table. They also often have sales coupons. I hate spending a lot of money for pants they will ruin in preschool or playing and grow out of before you know it. I'd also try a 2nd hand shop, we all give away clothes that are still good, just dont fit!
Good luck!

Hi L.,

I know what you mean, I have 4 kids of my own and need to find inexpensive ways to provide nice clothes for them. I go to a children's used clothing sale at Southwest Chicago Christian School in Oak Lawn. It's on Central Avenue. They have it twice a year, one in the fall and one in the spring. The one for this fall is on October 3 from 9am-12pm. There are no children allowed and you can't bring in any bags.
I also just recently found out about one in Lemont on Bell Road at a Nazarene Church. That one is next Saturday September 12 from 9am-12pm. On their website, they say that you can bring bags or laundry baskets, but no children.
These sales, along with clothes, have toys, books, puzzles, etc.
Let me know if you need exact addresses. I noticed from your profile that you live in Oak Forest, so these places are not too far from you.

I'm not sure where you live, but I would check out Once upon a child. I went there this weekend and spent $56 and got a lot of really nice "play" clothes. 99% of the clothes are used, but in really good condition. I think I got five pairs of jeans (around $4.50 each), 6 tops and even a winter coat. Knowing that that I can get nice looking clothes for play and even school, I don't feel so back spending a little more on the couple nice outfits she has for parties, dinners out, etc.
