Induction Scheduled for Tomorrow, Tuesday - Advice?

Hello,
Both my last two births had inductions scheduled, but the baby came on his own right before. This one doesn't seem to be happening that way. Now I'm not a super zealous natural childbirth advocate - I think it's fine, I'm just not that person - but I do like to try to do this as drug free as possible, especially after my first experience being a bit of a nightmare with the drugs (I let them call the shots instead of me - and I have since changed doctors and hospitals for the better). My issue is that I often begin labor, and do not progress for long periods of time - 20+ hours for example (30+ hours total active labor time). So I will usually end up with a pitocin, which also means a bit of an epidural, but then I have them turn it off, so I am really coming out of the epidural by the time the baby comes. Each time I hope to stay home long enough to not get an epidural, but each time it hasn't turned out that way. ANYWAY. Induction seems like the entire thing will be controlled by drugs. I am not looking forward to that. Does anyone have any advice of how to do this, what to ask for, better ways to do it? They are inducing because I am past my due date, and 43 years old. I get that things deteriorate in there, and I get the "need"... but I am still wary. Advice?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

As long as your child gets here safely, it doesn't really matter how. Drugs, no drugs, c-section, scheduled, planned, water, home, hospital... half the time when people make plans they get thrown out the window anyway. Just relax, do what you feel is best for your baby, and you'll be fine. Women have inductions every day. It's fine!

both of my babies were induced. Its so simple and I allowed them to do it all. My second doctor was much kinder than my first. But what did I know having nothing to compair it too. My stand was do what is best for the babies. If you leave them in the oven too long they get too well done and that becomes unhealthy. My fil was very against the inducing. I find it to be a blessing. My grandmother carried my aunt too long and she has major disablities....due to carring too long. I am very sensitive to meds. IDK how people can be addicted to pain killers as I take one and good bye see you in three days. They really knock me off my feet. I wont be awake at all. So the meds they gave me werent too harsh that I passed out or even really made me feel anything more that I would feel after a glass of wine. Keep in mind my body is really sensitive. I feel natrual child birth is best but when your not able to because its not the best thing for our babies. They needed to come out. It wanst early it was right at or a few days after the due date. Overall I liked the experience and after the frist child birthing I said "that wasnt so bad, I could do this again". Idk if this helps but just lay back and enjoy your day bringing your newiest family member to the world.

I had 4 of them (all on the due date) and it was great. Babies would have been over 10 lbs. if I waited, and I'm a small person. Didn't want to risk too big, c-section, etc.

I just went in, they did the drugs, and the baby came a few hours later. Really it was easy and planned, which helped. I always got the epidural, yes.

How the child gets here actually has huge implications for their life expectancy and future diseases. The vaginal anti-bodies are important, but of course you don't choose if it's a c-section. Complications during birth can result in lifelong problems. So, you need to do what's best for you. Personally the induction (while I'm weary of drugs too) went very well. I have no idea what it's like to have natural labor or if that's less or more painful. All women are different, as is each birth.

You can get a ultrasound scan of your placenta function done (I did that with my last baby, because they were starting to grumble about waiting) - if your placenta is still working well, why the rush to induce? I waited 10 days after my due date, and my little guy was just fine. Your age by itself is not a reason.

You could also try some of these 'natural' induction methods to give your body just a little push if it is teetering on the brink of going into labor already.

Regardless of which way things go, I hope things turn out really well for you and your little one!

With my first, I went with the no induction. He was two weeks overdue. Big mistake. My son end ended up getting some of the meconium in his nose and lungs and had to go to nicu for about 6 hours. He was really having trouble breathing and it was scary. If I had of induced a week early, that might not have been an issue.
I only went 1 week overdue with my daughter before I requested to be induced. Everything went perfectly.
Other than the drugs, there's no real way to get to the baby to come. Sorry. You just have to weigh your wishes with what the dr tells you, and go with what you feel is right for you.

I had 2 inductions for my second and third children. It was wonderfully timed for my second, not so much for the third. I don't really feel much from the pitocin until my water is broken. Then I go very quickly. My advice, no matter how little you are feeling, get the epidural sooner rather than later. With the first induction I got it before and the birth was wonderful. With my last induction, I waited until after my water broke and it didn't take fast enough. I felt everything. Pitocin makes labor go quicker but it intensifies the pain by 100. Above all, know that you will have a baby tomorrow! Congrats! And as a FYI- since you had pitocin before ( my first I got it because I didn't move fast enough), there is really not much difference from a scheduled induction, you just start with the pitocin and cut out the 20+ hours you had before.

all three of my deliveries were with the Pit Drip. #1 & 2 were epidurals, one vaginal & one c-section. #3 was all natural....& was the best of the three. Quicker recovery & movement.

All three deliveries were extended events....& the c-section came about because our daughter was in distress. With the other two children, they were under some stress but not enough to warrant surgery.

Wishing you an easy & safe delivery!

4 out of my 5 babies were all natural... my #4 was induced.

I went in and they started the drip. They would come in and ask how I was doing.. feeling anything etc. They were suprised that I couldn't feel the contractions. On the monitor they were showing up as strong, I felt nothing. But when I did finally feel them.. HOLY COW!! They were the most intense, painful contractions I had had with any of my kids ( all 5 were with out pain meds.. not by choice. They came into the world before the pain meds could be given). But 2 1/2 hours after walking in the door, 15 mins of intense pain and 2 pushes total, I was holding my little boy :)

My only advice.. is be aware that the pain in more intense than a natural birth. So maybe if you want pain meds when you start to get closer, or if the contractions are showing up strong even if your not feeling them, ask for them at that point.

Good luck and congrats!
