In Search of Soccer for Younger Children

I have been searching for "Itty Bitty Soccer" in Yorktown, Newport News, Hampton, etc. for my son. He is really interested in Soccer but I cannot find anywhere that he can play. York County used to offer "Itty Bitty Soccer" thru the classes found in the Parks & Rec paper that goes out. I have not seen it in there for a long time and cannot find any info. online. My son is not old enough for regular Youth Soccer yet (he turns 4 years old next month). Does anyone know of a soccer league for younger children?

What can I do next?

Go to Varush.com then click on registration. They have soccer teams for your sons age. You may have to pay a late registration fee. My son played in this league when he was 3 years old and he had a blast.

I am in Hampton not far from the county line and right here in my neighborhood is the AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) and they start at 3. Unfortunately registration ended a while back for the spring session but they start registering again in July for the Fall season. I think we are going to put our 3 year old in that.....she can't stop talking about it!! :)

You can look up more info about AYSO online at http://soccer.org/Regions

I have been looking for something for my 2 1/2 year old. I started when he was one and found swimming. I have read the other posts to your question and will be looking for Soccer for my son also. (the swimming starts at 1 for other moms who want something for the younger kids.)

My son played on the AYSO league in Hampton when he was three and four. I have not seen any signs up for registration though. I usually see them on Big Bethal Road by NorthHampton church.

I have heard of Itty Bitty in Yorktown, called Mighty Mites for ages 3-5, although, like you, I can never find any info on it. My older son, who was 4 in November, is about to start his 4th season in the Virginia Rush Developmental Program, on the Under 4 team. It's been a great experience, and he enjoys it. At this level, they don't play actual games because they are too young to comprehend teamwork. They have 1 practice during the week, at the coach's discretion, and then on Saturday mornings, they have another session with a more experienced soccer coach. Go to www.varush.com an click on Developmental program--they are into late registration, as I believe practices start next week or the week after.
