In Need of Boys' Pants That Don't Fall Down!

My five-year-old son has some fine-motor challenges; he's still mastering buttons and snaps. (We're working on it, but we're not quite there yet.) What we really need are elastic-waist jeans (size 5 or 5T) where the elastic WORKS, where the jeans stay up. Mr. all-thumbs is capable of being quite self-conscious, and he's got a classic kindergarten-age horror at the prospect of having his underpants show, or asking the teacher for help buttoning/snapping.

Thanks!

Children's Place does sell actual 'pants' with elastic waists (not athletic or fleece pants.) But as some other's have said, my son wears regular jeans with the adjustable waist elastic pulled to like the 3rd button on each side, and he can easily slide his pants on and off without unbottoning them...

Old Navy and Walmart have jeans and khaki pants with the elastic adjustable straps inside the waistband. My youngest son is very slim and we really had to cinch the pants in at the waist. The elastic worked well and lasted for the entire time he wore the pants. Walmart also has husky sized pants with the adjustable elastic straps. If your son is of average build, the bigger waistbands on the husky pants may give you enough room to cinch the pants in alot so he doesn't need to snap or zip the pants to get them on and off.

Have you ever tried the all elastic waist pants from Children's Place? The always worked well for my son at that age. Lots of kids have trouble with snaps, buttons & zippers in K or1 or even 2nd grade!

I always find them @ Old Navy. All kid's jeans and even Khaki/dressy pants have the "adjustable elastic" inside them.

Old Navy's jeans with the adjustable straps inside. Yes, they have snaps, but the adjusters are so stretchy that he doesn't need to unbutton his pants. My boys are both twiglets and we've been buying them for years!

Try the Okie-Dokie brand from Jcp or jeans from Wal-Mart. Also you can send him to school in athletic pants every day these have elatic waist bands on them.

I would also vote for the athletic pants. According to my son (2nd grade) thats the cool thing to wear...lol! I bought him a pair at a used kids store the other day for $1.95 and he was so excited about them....couldn't wait to wear them. We also have issues with jeans because he's so skinny but has long legs.

I've found that Old Navy and Gap (same parent company) pants are cut for slender boys. Although the jeans have snaps, they can be pulled up and down fairly easily if adjusted properly...

When my son was young, I bought his pants at Childrens Place. He was and still is very slim, but of course those "toddler" sized pants don't come in slims, which he wears now. They had a great selection of elastic waist pants at Childrens Place, nice corderouys and khakis. Do be sure that he can get pants he can operate on his own. I work in an elementary school, teachers and teaching assistants don't offer any bathroom assistance and wouldn't put our hands anywhere near a child's privates.

Children's Place has adjustable elastic waist cargo pants that work well for my Kindergartener (in the 4-7 sizes, not just toddler sizes). He also wears the athletic pants from there. My son is big for his age but my slimmer daughter does well in their clothes too.
