In-Home Care for 4 Year Old Needed in McKinney

I am in need of immediate childcare for my almost-4-year-old daughter. Up until last year, she was in private home care. Her daycare provider passed away very suddenly and I had to place her in public daycare (Kids-R-Kids, if you're familiar with it), which has not worked out well at all. She did not adjust well to the transition (and received little help with it from the teachers, to be perfectly honest) and as a result has been acting out and getting aggressive with her classmates. It's obviously in her best interest to go back to an in-home setting. If you know of anyone in the area who provides childcare (preferably with a preschool curriculum) in their home, I would greatly appreciate a referral!

She needs care from about 7:15am to 6:30pm Monday through Friday (I do pick her up around 5:15 or 5:30 two days a week for extracurricular activities). I live in Martha's Vineyard, near Independence and El Dorado, so someone close to home would be ideal. I need to start her there by Tuesday (talk about short notice!).

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide, and God Bless!!

What can I do next?

I stand by my comment below. I agree that negative decisions shouldn't be made and this certainly isn't the place to disparage others. But it is a place to help others make informed decisions. As I said, I do believe there are MANY qualified, quality home caregivers, but it should be an informed decision. A home caregiver who is serious about quality, loving, safe care will get themselves registered with licensing for the state of texas and will agree to the terms and conditions of being monitored just like a public facility. I had the unfortunate experience of knowing a very close family who had a very tragic, life changing event w/ home care and although not common, that statistic wasn't a help to them. All I was saying is that if you go w/ home care, make sure they are registered with licensing. Otherwise, it's like letting a stranger have your children.

Please evaluate an at home care decision VERY carefully. There are many at home care providers that I'm sure are quality and have not had any problems. Not to disparage any quality caregivers out there, but I would never chance my child being at an at home daycare. In public care, they may not receive one-on-one attention all the time, but there are so many safeguards----many have cameras, there are always teachers and parents around, and other children to tell you if something is happening that you don't approve of! There are so many horror stories about in home providers. Make sure if you do choose this option, go on the dfps website and make sure the provider is a registered, LICENSED provider with the state of Texas. You can check out their reputation and if they have any violations. In a pinch, I would rather be safe with a licensed, public care center than just picking someone b/c I needed care quickly. Good luck, and let us know what happens!

Hi L.,
I have a registered in home daycare in McKinney but am currently full right now. I have a website that you can take a look at www.kidsinbloom.blogspot.com and on there I have a list of people in the area that do daycare with their phone numbers so you can call and check their rates, times and set up an appointment to go meet them. I read what the last person wrote, but as you already know an inhome daycare can be such a great experience for a kiddo. I hate to see anyone share such negative views without meeting the individual person. I know that the kids I watch are getting much more one on one attention in a loving home setting...I think its the next best thing to having mom & dad. These kids are like my own and I love watching them grow! All I would recommend you do is to ask for references of the parents of the kids they watch now and ones they have watched in the past...and make sure to call them. I keep in contact with all of the parents & kids because you really develop good lasting friendships when you are such a big part of their lives for so long. Good Luck! A.
