Most months i dont have enough money to make ends meet. We cant afford good food or cloths. My daughter is a great child. Shes been thru hell over how her mom treated her. Shes depressed. I have her in therapy. She has had a descent Christmas in 4yrs since i was injured. Any way my question. Does any one know were i can go to get help for tge holidays for her ? I saw on here that a lady wanted to adopt a family for the holidays. Ive tried the obvious places with no luck. Before my injury i gave to salvation army. I did angel tree. Adopted family's. Now she and i are on hard times. She shouldnt have to suffer for my injury. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. God bless

My daughter and family are getting food stamps and free school lunches because of their low income. She has received presents from the Salvation Army as well as a couple of other charities. She has had to show that they are on state assistance. I know the charities are overwhelmed. Perhaps this is a way for them to decrease the number of recipients and know they are providing for the needy.

I suggest you Google "how to find toy's for low income children". I googled that phrase and found many ways to get help in my city. My daughter first found the sites through her case worker. She now looks them up on the Internet so she'll know the requirements for getting toys.

Contact the United Way, they have a list of organizations who give to or adopt a family over the Holidays. You can also call the Marine Corps recruiting office near you and ask about the Toys for Tots program.

Jeffrey,

Welcome to mamapedia!!

I'm sorry you're injured. Have you spoken to the hospital where you are receiving treatment? Have you reached out to your church?

Have you had any honest conversation with your family and friends? Do they know what's going on and that you need help? If not? Then you have already taken one step in letting your pride not get in the way and asking here - now take the next step and talk with your family and tell them what is going on.

How old is your daughter?
What does she like?
Does she have any hobbies?

Have you talked with your local Lions Club, Knights of Columbus or anyt of those organizations?

Why would Salvation Army NOT help you? Why have organizations turned you down?

As you can see - I have more questions than answers. I wish you luck. I hope you are getting help and therapy for your injury so you can get back to work.

I would think her therapist would know how to connect you.

Also try her school, contact your village/city. Police department community resources worker, your local church or the local library.

I've read the other answers and can't see where anyone told you this is a mom's only site.

you need to go to the organizations that you supported in the past. Be prepared to show them your financial status, as many people have been trying to take advantage.

Tyler and I adopt a family from our church every year. The family may NOT be in our church. We are given a list of likes, needs, wants, hobbies, etc. We go shopping as a family. We take the items back to our church unwrapped. Everything is put together and boxed up and taken to the family Christmas Eve.

Go to the organizations you have sponsored in the past and ask for help. Be prepared to prove your need.

Talk with your social worker. Talk with your pastor/priest/rabbi.

Have you talked to someone from The Salvation Army? There is always Goodwill and maybe check out some local churches, I know here in Florida there are many churches that will help families in need.

Turn to the same organizations you supported as a starting point. Also check the websites for groups like Toys for Tots, Feeding America and St. Vincent De Paul Society to see how you can get help. If you're religious, reach out to your pastor for advice on how to access resources in your area. There are many groups out there who can help you and your daughter, but you'll need to reach out to find them.

Hi Jeffrey! We have Papas on here too so don't worry about asking anything!! You've got some great ideas below but I wanted to add that Christian radio stations OFTEN have information regarding how to help/nominate families to bless at Christmas. Check that out as well. Hey, I realize it's hard for you guys now but remember, things can and do change. Hang in there and blessings to you both!!

Call your county's aging and disability resource center. It sounds like you need more help than just a nice Christmas.

You are clearly religious so if I were you I would start with your church. Explain your situation to your priest or pastor and I would think they would be able to help you.
Best of luck.

Just be honest with your family and friends. Let them know you are struggling and they will help. You could also ask her therapist, doctor and/or teacher for local resources.

Jeffrey - it's not a moms only site - it's a parenting site. We have a number of men/dads who are members. So don't hesitate to participate and post questions. You're more than welcome here, same as the other dads who are involved with their kids (whether as single dads or as part of a couple).

In our town, people like you reach out to charities (churches, Toys for Tots, etc. as suggested below) but also the town's office of children & families has a wish list program. Sometimes the schools do too. See what's available -- you never know. Network/network/network in your area. Keep good notes so you remember who you've talked to and where they sent you.

And don't overlook thrift shops - they have incredible deals, and many are fun by local charities. You can get some really good $1 items, often not used at all.

Contact the same organizations you donated to when you were able to. Ask her school, church, therapist, etc. Tell your family and friends you need a little help - there is no shame in that.

Elf Louise is a local group to San Antonio. I would think the Dallas Forth Worth area would have a similar group.

I am assuming you tired all those places you used to donate to? If not, start there. From my understanding anyone can nominate someone for the angel tree. Check into toys for tots and other similar places. Also, if you belong to a church or coven (or any kind of religious/spiritual group) of any kind they can sometimes help.

Usually the Salvation Army Angel Tree is the only place that really does Christmas for families with younger kids.

In Fort Worth you might try Goodwill and churches. Surely some of them will help?

Try going on FB and searching for free sites. We have several free pages/groups in my area. We all give as much as we can and we often have to ask too.
