Ladies,
I am so congested that I can not breathe and I have to teach a class on Thursday. Any great remedies that can help quickly.
I'm using saline nasal spray and taking some Sudafed--any other better ideas.
Thanks,
N.

What can I do next?

Afrin is the only thing that works for me when I'm all blocked up. I spray once in each nostril, then lay down. I give it a minute or 2 then blow my nose. I then repeat twice. Amazing how it clears me up- and how long it lasts.

When I am congested I CANNOT get along without my neti pot.
I also drink apple cider vinegar, like another poster suggested. I do a teaspoon of acv, and a teaspoon of raw honey in a cup of warm water.

I hope you feel better soon!

I am a natural person and I drink a little apple cider vinegar mixed with water about each hour and it clears of the congestion fast. I just got through doing this because of a sinus infection. I feel bunches better and can even open my eye now.

Get a neti pot. Just the thought of one freaked me out at first but now I couldn't survive a winter without mine!

So is this a nasal congestion or chest???

It seems, only your nose?

Use a Neti Pot nasal rinse.

Also, you need Sudafed, but with "Pseudoephedrine" in it. You get this BEHIND the pharmacy counter & you have to ask for it. It is 12 hour, non-drowsy.
This is the only one that works, for sinus infections.

You can also take Claritin or another over the counter allergy med.
This is an antihistamine. So, along with the Neti-pot and Sudafed w/Pseudoephedrine, you will be using a 3 prong approach.

This is what my Husband does, who has always had Sinus problems/infections.
This works for him.

**I'm gonna tell my Husband about the Cider Vinegar with water.

Sip some apple cider vinegar. It'll help break down the build up. Then use your nasal cleanser. Then chew on an Altoid to open things up. Then take a nice hot steam shower, even on your head, and try to breath in all that moisture. Then rub on some Vicks and turn on your humidifier full blast. Do this a few times a day.

Go garlic! Chop it up and add it to everything you eat - even sandwhiches, yogurt, etc. Its sounds gross but its a natural anti-biotic. Try even eating it raw by taking a bite ofyour food and then taking a small bite of a clove.

You should see some results within the day.

My husband love the neti pot too but it grosses me out! If you're game, try it, he loves his. Other than that, I'd suggest some Afrin. I was hesitant to use it for a long time, but honestly, it rocks. You have to read the label carefully b/c you can only take it once every 12 hours I think and can only use it for like 2 or 3 days in a row. I use it if I'm so congested I can't sleep and it does the trick every time, so it would surely work so you can sound well for your presentation!

I agree with the neti pot...get some Neil Med Sinus Rinse and use it as often as you want....also some Mucinex would probably help break up the congestion. But...check with your pharmacist...in case any medications that you take make it necessary for you to avoid decongestants. And drink Water...water...WATER....it will help thin out the phlegm so you can get rid of it.

You obviously have a cold - so to actually speed it up and get you back to normal take Zicam (I like the oral mist spray, but they also have it in lozenge form and nose swab) do this 4-5 times a day. Also go and buy Umcka - its a cherry flavored liquid, also speeds up the whole cold (you can take both together, no problem) they are natural.
Sudafed will help immediately with the symptoms, also the nasal spray. Drink hot tea with honey (preferably Manuka Honey, its so amazing it has antibacterial properties and is even used to heal wounds).
Eating raw garlic, or making a spread with some butter and put it on toast.
I would also use some menthol stuff like Olbas (you can put some on a scarf you are wearing, or on your pillow at night) will help you breathe better. Drink lots of liquids too (water, tea), avoid sugar until this clears.
Hopefully doing those things will help you out - always works for us.

Have you gone to the doctor. It may seem seasonal, but, you could have asthma or bronchitis. Sometimes the change in the weather, will bring about, seasonal asthma. If it's allergies, get some Benadryl. Good Luck!!

I take Alka Seltzer cold medicine
Up & Up (target brand) cough and cold relief
and generic mucinex -
not all at once !!!!
It just depends on what I have in the house.

We live with allergies and sinus congestion - my son and I are allergic to mother nature and cats and dogs. So we go fishing a lot, work in the yard, and just get more pets. LOL

Definitely try a Neti Pot with the saline solution; I never tried one before this year and it has really helped with my allergy congestion. It is amazing how much it clears out my sinuses. I don't know how well it works for someone who is sick (I've only used it for allergy-related problems) but it might be worth it to try. Good luck!

Don't know if anyone else suggest this but you try a NetiPot. It really helps clear you up. My youngest daughter does it too, especially when she feels something coming on. I do it also and haven't had sinus trouble since I've started doing it. You can do it on top of what you are taking also. Good luck and God Bless.
