I soooo need to go to the dentist, but I seriously have put it off for years now (which mean my teeth are yuck and I know I will need alot of work done) but I am literally scared to death of going. Does anyone know any dentists that actually take that into consideration and not just blow off your fears in the Plano, Richardson, Garland area? Unless I find one that caters to people that have a true fear of going to a dentist I probably will continue to not go. Help!!! Thanks in Advance

What can I do next?

Loretta Peet is a great 'sleep dentist'. My husband had this problem and she was fantastic! She is off 190 and Jupiter. You take a pill before you go and someone drives you home after. All the work done while you are asleep!

I have a wonderful dentist to recommend you to, but he is in Allen. I believe he is well worth the drive. My mother is terrified of dentists too, I finally got her to go see him and she LOVES him. She still gets nervous when she has an appointment, but not nearly as upset.

Dr. Jeff Williams (his brother Steve is just as great in the same office) ###-###-####

Of course, you may have to have several visits since it's been a while. Make sure to tell them about your fear and they will work through it with you to make sure you are relaxed and comfortable.

Good luck!

Hi P. - I don't really have a dentist to recommend. I'm new to the area myself and have only seen my dentist once, but I was happy with him. Just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I don't have this fear, but my dad (who's 83) did - obviously he came from a time where a visit to the dentist was unbelievably painful. He had to get a root canal about 10 years ago and was amazed at how NOT painful it was. I think many dentists now are really focused on minimal or pain free dental work. They do their best to get everything numb, and though the drill and stuff are annoying and/or wierd, the experience isn't that bad anymore. So try to relax - you'll be fine.

Be sure to let the dentist know that you have the fear so they can help you deal with it. They're used to it and may be able to help you have a positive experience.

My husband is terrified of dentist and we see Dr. Lazaris at Texas Dental

http://www.texasdentalpc.com/

They are wonderful. They have tv's above all of the chairs so you can watch tv to take your mind off of what they are doing. They also have sedation dentistry, so you take a little pill to relax you for procedures. Amazingly enough my husband does not mind going to the dentist anymore. They are in Plano, and I know you will love them.

I really like Dr Singh in Plano. She's very nice, explains everything and makes you comfortable. She also doesn't do things that don't need to done. Her number is ###-###-####. http://www.allensmilemaker.com/ There are other dentists now that do "sedation" dentistry too but I've never been to one. Best of luck.

You're definitely not alone in your fear of dentists! I dreaded going, and sure enough, I had a tooth so bad even a root canal wouldn't save it & it had to be pulled. It left a really unsightly gap, but I lived with it for a while. We recently noticed a new dentist office in Rockwall, so we tried them out. The dentist introduced himself as Dr. Clay and his last name is Aimly(sp?) - the office is called SmileWorks though, so I'm sure you could find it that way. In case you can't, their number is ###-###-####. They were amazing, explained all my options, and I decided to get an implant. Both Dr. Clay and his staff were sooo supportive and understanding of my problem with noises and smells at the dental office. I don't know if they're just that way or because they're new, but I got tons of attention and was able to focus on my new smile that I was getting instead of the yucky stuff to get it! They put a scented thingy nearby & gave me a teddy bear to clutch for "security" & didn't make me feel silly at all by the fact that I really liked having that - and I'm a grown woman for goodness sake. And really, I was pleasantly surprised at how painless it was - Dr. Clay was really gentle & the numbing shot didn't even hurt!
I highly recommend SmileWorks now to everyone -- good luck!

I would like to recommend Dr. Shawn Blagowsky. Her office's tag line is "We Cater to Cowards." I just took my 5 year old daughter there to have 8 cavities filled. She is not a pediatric dentist but my daughter had absolutely no problems and she was sitting in the chair for almost 2 hours. I'm pretty sure she didn't even know she got shots because I was trying to ask her if anything hurt and she said no. I asked what the worst part of it was and she said spitting.

They are located in Richardson at Plano Rd. and Campbell back behind an office building. Their phone number is ###-###-####.

Good luck. If my 5 year old can do it, you can do it too.
