I go to a wonderful allergy doctor. Dr. Lee is at the Tom Landry center at Baylor. If you would like to call, her number is ###-###-####.

If they're that bad maybe you should go to the doctor and try to get some allgra or something like that. Allegra works great for me. They sell that zyrtec otc now to so maybe you could try that.

My husband has horrible allergies. He uses a netty pot each night to rinse out his sinuses plus he is on regular medication, xyzal and veramyst. The other thing I've been told is to always wash your face before bed and to change your pillow case each night before bed. He did that for a while and it helped but I think that was too many things to remember. Good luck!

Hello A.,

have you been tested? you could be allergic to more than one thing.

if it's ragweeds: here are some more to avoid in the ragweed family: lettuce, sunflower, safflower, artichokes, Cocklebur, Dandelion, Echinacea, endive,Feverfew, Gerbera Daisy, Milk Thistle, Stevia, Arnica, Burdock, Chrysanthemum, Chrysanthemum, Spilanthes

read all the labels... foods, lotions, shampoo, etc. no flowers/plants in the house, no pinesol either. no candles, no sprays, etc.
have you tried claritin? I can't handle the benadryl. puts me out like a light. Good luck! ~C.~

I am sorry, I feel your pain. Our yard is full of cedar elms and we go through pain this time of year. My daughter just missed some school SO sick with what we thought was something else but ended up being allergy related.

Allegra has been a miracle drug for her. Hubby and I use Astelin nose spray and it is fantastic.

Also, a practice we just started per our pedi.....shower at night to remove pollens, etc from your body/hair. When you lie down in bed the allergens are on your body and you breathe them in more.

We use a NeilMed sinus rinse ($12 at Target including a supply of solution). After the night shower, sometimes with the Sudafed vapors, blow your nose and use the rinse as directed. It is not uncomfortable, just weird. You have to do it over the sink, as you rinse 1 nostril, the solution runs out the other nostril. Kind of like a netti pot. This practice has helped a great deal.

Best wishes on finding relief!

I use two natural products for me and my children: Quercetin (liquid for the kids) and Xlear

We also use Zyrtec if I don't catch the season or just need additional support.

The best allergy medicine I've found is flonase for the sneezing / runny nose, and Opcon A for the burning eyes. I can't do benadryl unless I can sleep. It's great for those days I need a good rest and can't sleep because of allergies. Claritin and Zyrtec are also pretty good in a pinch when I don't want to sleep.

I forgot to add, during allergy season when my eyes are puffy and burning, I sleep with cold damp wash cloth over my eyes. It relieves the burning and helps control the swelling.

Sounds like you are beyond the help of Benadryl. You really need to see an allergist. My oldest daughter started suffering badly in first grade, and second grade was horrible! Her poor eyes!! But we took her to the allergist, identified the allergens that affected her most, and started her on Claritin (which was still prescription) which worked great but it takes several doses before you started getting the full effect. Clarinex is also good, but only available by prescription. One year her eyes still got so bad that she had to go to an opthamologist and wound up on steroid eye drops. Good luck!

I use the saline nasal spray every night, and somtimes more if I need to. I have also had to start using the breath right nasal strips at night to help with congestion, which has done wonders! I can breath now, so I sleep better! My allergies have also been horrible this season, more than usual. Claritin hasn't worked for me at all, and I haven't tried zyrtec yet.

I'm sitting here with a 102 fever because of allergies. Yuck.

Try taking Zyrtec or Claritin BEFORE the allergies start...it will help. I obviously didn't, & now I'm sitting here miserable.

In the same boat. Mine started really bad right after Hurricane Ike passed through. I have had a rash on my lips and nose since then and post nasal drip, sneezing, itchy eyes, you name it. Pretty miserable also.
I take Zyrtec daily, sometimes with the "D" part. Prescription strength zyrtec was 10mg but have noticed the Zyrtec D is a 5mg/ pseudo 120mg combo. So I either take two or one at night and one during the day. I am also on Rhinocort. I ran out and just got it renewed which is probably why mine are so bad. I also use a nasal rinse but just use saline spray. Lots of chapstick.
I also use colloidial silver from the health food store. Not as regularly as I should for allergies, so I can't really tell you if it has helped or not. But you might try it.
I have already been allergy tested so know what my triggers are. Unfortunately trees, grasses and plants are some of my top offenders along with animal dander. So I am pretty much screwed the rest of this allergy season I would bet. Am also highly allergic to cantaloupe. That just started about 8 years ago. Used to eat it all the time. Now can't go near it. So be careful.
Good luck,
L.

It's the ragweed. I finally broke down and am taking Zyrtec - it works quite well for me. On top of that, Nature's sunshine makes a product that typically works for me called ALJ. And things like vitamin C and quercitin and nettles are also very helpful, but just aren't cutting it with the levels of ragweed (and fungus) we've had recently. I also notice that my oral reactions to foods are back and if you are allergic to ragweed, you need to avoid foods that are in the same family like canteloupe and chamomile. I would reserve the benadryl for bedtime.

Ask the doc to prescribe Nasonex... it works well for me.

Also, rinse your nose. Try a netti pot. If not, then just use the baby syringe... mix up some warm water and a little table salt. Rinse, rinse, rinse. There are youtube clips that show you how to do it.

Hi A.
Nasonex has been my life saver. It works so great. I used to get sick at least twice a year with broncitis and now not. Ask your doctor to prescribe it to you. It works wonders.

Hi A.,

Adaptogens are the best alternatives to medications to help your allergies! I highly recommend an incredible book titled Adaptogens: Herbs for Strength, Stamina, and Stress Relief by Winston and Maimes. From the book "There is a category of herbs called adaptogens that help the human body adapt to stress, support normal metabolic processes, and restore balance. They increase the body's resistance to physical, biological, emotional, and environmental stressors and promote normal physiologic function".

The 10 most potent adaptogens on the earth, with the highest therapeutic properties available, are now delievered in a fast acting oral spray, called Tunguska Mist. Go to www.VitalHealth.TunguskaMist.com to learn more.

Tunguska Mist Pure will help reduce the negative effects of stress on your body (including weakened immune system), and help restore balance, or homeostasis. Tunguska Mist tastes great and with the intra-oral spray you get over 90% of the nutrients absorbed immediately, which go to work within seconds.

My husband used to be on allergy medications and used Affrin all the time. Since he's been taking adaptogens, my husband doesn't deal with any allergies, and no longer takes any medications. Adaptogens have made a world of difference for my husband, and it is proven. We are passionate about helping people reduce the damaging effects of stress on the body and restoring balance naturally, without medications. Good luck and God Bless:)

Best regards,
N.
