I'm Bruising like Crazy

I'm fair skinned and have a rub on tan :)
Anyway, I thought the rub on tan would cover my bruises or at least disquise them, but no. How can I cover up my bruises? They're all over my chins and bottom 1/2 of my legs. They don't hurt, but they are so ugly. How can I prevent bruises? I don't really run into anything, but sometimes I do and that causes a huge ugly purple/green bruise.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for your help! Your advice and suggestions prompted me to talk to my doc. She said its a lack of iron. I was bordeline anemic before my pregnancy and since having the baby I've resorted back to a low iron diet. So, I'm researching some foods that are iron rich and I'm hoping that will solve my ugly leg issue :) Thanks again ladies!

You may be lacking in potassium. I bruise really easily as well, so I try to eat lots of bananas. You might try it.

I am also fair and I seem to go in fases of bruising. I know there is a vitamin k cream at the drug store you can buy to put on the bruises. But you can also take vitamin k. Just google it. It usually means you are lacking some sort of vitamin. Hope this helps.

Good Morning S.;

You need to immediately go to a doctor and have your platelets
checked!
From the way you describe your bruises it could be that your
spleen is blocking production of your platelets!
My spelling of these may not be right, but, it you sound it
out the doctor will know.
My wife was like that and it was due to her spleen blocking
the production of the platelets. For her it showed up right
after our second son was born!
Good Luck

Hi!

This is going to sound a bit crazy, but its not. Cut up a potato and rub it in the area. Also, you should have your blood checked to see if your cell count is normal. Bruising so easily could be one of the signs of something abnormal.
Hope this helps!

I agree with the other posters who said to see a doctor just in case... I went through a lot of blood tests when I was a teen, as I have always had the same problem, then lethargy set it too. We have family history of anemia, diabetes, hypo-glocemia, even skin cancer, so I went to the doc to get it all checked out. For good or bad, they couldn't find a cause, but said that fair-skinned people generally tend to bruise easier than darker-skinned.

It's a joke in my family that I am day-glo white (my dad shows the Irish heritage), while my 3 siblings all got dark native skin from my mom's side. I have noticed that I definitely bruise more easily and heal slower than they do when I bruise.

Hi S.! It's late at night , so I'll keep my advice short. Make sure you're getting enough vitamin C. It will help prevent bruising. I've had this problem also, and higher doses of vitamin C help. Good luck! T.

I know you found your reason for bruising but I thought I would tell you a helpful hint that was on Good Morning America. I have not tried it but will. As soon as you bump yourself put a cotton ball soaked with vinegar under a bandaid directly on the hurt area for one hour. I am like you, usually I don't know how I got a bruise but next time I catch myself potentially getting one I am trying this.

Congratulations on your precious baby!

I bruise like crazy too when I get busy and don't take my vitamin C for a while. It takes care of the problem fast and, being a water soluble vitamin, if you take more than your body needs it will be excreted.

Hope this helps.

Hi S.,
Please make sure you don't have leukemia, which makes you bruise like crazy. It happened to my 40 something yr.old cousin, never been sick a day in her life. Bruising was the first sign. Seriously.
Otherwise, taking capsuled Bioflavinoids from your healthfood store will help. Also Homeopathic tablets with Arnica are good. Topically there is a wonderful cream from Heel Company called Trameel. This company also has a tablet form. I have used these on my kids and myself with immediate positive results.

Vitamin K heals bruises, it comes in a lotion as well a supplement. For cover up have you tried Sally Hansen leg spray on tan? You can bruise easily if you are short on iron. Slow Fe Iron is the easiest on your system, However you need to go to the doctor this may be something else going on more serious than just having a defiency of iron. It could be numerous things in which is nothing to play with please get to the doctor asap.

You should check with a doctor. My MIL had that problem and he told her to eat more fruit because she didn't have enough vitamin C in her system. You may have a blood problem that's causing it.

How is your Aspirin intake?
Aspirin can cause your skin to bruise easily, which is why I am asking. Check that whatever meds you may be on are not high in Aspirin content.
You can try Agia cover make up by Verimark.
It stays on until you wash it off.

Hi...I, like you, have had a really hard time with bruising easily. When I was pregnant with my now 18 month old, I developed a blood clot in my leg and was on blood thinners for the remainder of my pregnancy and about 4 weeks after delivery. I noticed that I had started bruising really easy OFF of the blood thinners. To make a long story short, I followed up with a hematologist who told me that the bruising is a direct correlation to everything our body goes through with hormone regulation post pregnancy. He said the bruising was normal and that I would start to notice a decrease. Like I said earlier, my little one is 18 months and I have just recently noticed that I don't have as many bruises. Hope this helps, but follow up with your doc to make sure all is well if it makes you feel better.

If you're bruising more than usual for the same type of "bump", it could be symptomatic of other problems like diabetes, for example. Just be sure it's nothing serious....shouldn't start bruising more than you ever have before unless something is amiss, I think.

If you're anything like me, you may just have thin skin. I was told by a nurse once that most people bruise just as easily as I do, but their skin is thicker so you don't see them as readily. Unfortunately, I've never been able to find anything to cover or prevent the bruising.

Did the bruises just start showing up all of a sudden? If you haven't already done so, you should see a doctor immediately. I have a dear friend who started noticing large bruises on her arms and legs, so she saw a doctor about it. I don't want to alarm you, but it turned out to be a very seious blood condition called ITP where her platelet count dropped alarmingly low - which is what causes the bruises. Unless you have had recent bloodwork, please do so very soon.

I hope you've seen a doctor about your bruising. Especially if you are not particularly active, or if you bruise very easily. Do not ignore your own health. This could be a sign of something simple, like anemia, or something more serious. You owe it to yourself and your family to have it checked out!

Take a good multivitamin, if your body is deficient, the bruising is a sign of it. I've had that problem and just getting religious about taking my vitamins helps.

I don't think there is anything you can do to cover them very well. I guess you could put foundation or liquid makeup on them when you are going out. Is this a new occurence? You may want to go have some bloodwork done and see if you are anemic or if you are having clotting issues. If you have always been like this, then unless you want to wear shin guards around the house I think you are stuck with what you've got :)

I bruise like crazy sometimes also. And it is a deficiency of some type - can't remember. If you eat an orange with all that white stuff on it, it gives you what you are missing. My doctor told me this about 4 years ago and when I notice the bruises I eat some oranges each day that week and seem to be fine. That said, this advice is worth what you are paying for it - it is just my epxerience and everyone is different. It can't hurt to talk to a doctor. Take care, good luck.

You may want to increase your iron intake, as you may be anemic. You can become anemic at any time in your life, and it can be treated successfully. I would visit a doctor, or even an RN/Nurse Practitioner. Women bruise more easily than men, especially from minor injuries on the thighs, buttocks, and upper arms. You can try concealer to cover your recent bruises.

As far as the bruise you already have, gently massage it from the center, outwards. This helps the pooled up blood to re enter the system and work it's way out of the bruised area.

Hi S.,

Just please rule out any medical reason for your "bruising like crazy". Tell your doctor. Make sure your body is producing enough platelets. Some medications can cause this. Type "easy to bruise" into Google and check out the sites. Health first, vanity second. Good luck! jenifer

i have the same problem and mine is caused by being anemic, so you might try and eat more protein and iron, are you tired alot?
trying to cover them up with sunless tanning will only make them darker, as with any moles or freckles.
you may want to ask your dr. to do some blood work on you to rule out anything else.

To get rid of bruises...(if you know of someone in Australia), get something called Hyradoid - pronounced Here-a-doid. It will get rid of the ugliest darkest blue and purple bruises in about 2 days. A lot of diabetics use this. Not sure if it is a Rx or not, my X'IL's were from AUS and had stock in this stuff.

You are also low in IRON. I would start taking an Iron Supplement.

Wow, you've gotten some great responses. I'm inclined to lean towards the deficiency of some kind. I'm fair skinned and bruise easily as well. Sometimes it's worse than others, particularly if I'm taking lots of ibuprofen.

I'd get it checked out, though, just to make sure there's not something more serious underlying.

S.,

You've gotten a lot of great advice. I will also urge you to get it checked out by a doctor. I wouldn't worry about covering them, you can try concealer and then stipple on a little foundation/powder if it really bothers you. But the main issue is that easy bruising is normally a sign of a vitamin or mineral deficiency, but can also be a sign of leukemia. I'd rule out any medical reason first!

I don't have any advice on how to cover them up but, I am curious why you bruise so easily? Have you always bruised easily? Not sure how new your little one is so I don't know when the last time is that you've had blood work done..For some reason I thought it was lack of iron, but not totally sure on that...You might want to look into it if it is something that continues to happen to you when you have had no "trama" to your bruised areas...hate the saying but better safe than sorry...
