At 22 weeks with my second I had lost almost 15 pounds.

Only gaining 5 pounds over my starting pregnancy weight, altogether.

It can be totally normal to have such a small weight gain.

It can be totally normal depending on your starting weight and as long as the baby is still growing appropriately. At your next apt, ask your doctor to measure your uterus. It should be about 1cm for every week of pregnancy from pubic bone to the top of your uterus (so if you're 24 weeks pregnant, then the measurement should be 24cm). But if your doctor isn't worried, then I wouldn't be either :o)

Well weight gain keeps getting adjusted down. 20 is the number my doctor likes to see. YOu might be more active just because of chasing after children now. So having gained 18 pounds by 22 weeks would be quite high and mean you gained over 30 which is the upper limit recommended by ACOG. So it sounds like your weight gain is on the low side, but really if the baby is measuring fine then it really does not mater.
Where did you start for weight. Were you slightly heavy or near the upper limits of normal? Factors that may mean you would not want to gain even 30 pounds.

I'm at the same stage roughly and I've only gained 5 lbs.. technically i was so sick the first few weeks that I really haven't gained ANY weight at all (I went from 150 to 145 back to 150) I know I'm eating enough (and not all healthy stuff lol) it definitely has something to do with chasing a 2 year old around ALL the time. Be proud that you're doing well with weight gain and trust me, it'll catch up!

If the Dr. says not to worry, then I wouldn't worry about it, unless your intuition is telling you something else. I do know that each pregnancy is different. I gained 24 lbs total with my daughter and 36 lbs with my son, and ate extremely healthy with both my kid's, but especially my son cuz I was so sick.

Good luck and congratulations!

I am not overweight and I didn't gain any weight with my first baby until I was well into my 6th month. He came out 21 inches and 9.5 pounds. Your baby is probably fine =)

Everything IS fine! :) Every pregnancy is different and you can't compare one with the other. A lot of babies only start putting on weight in the last 3 weeks or so of the pregnancy. Any weight gain before that is either you or the amount of "water" you've got! So, enjoy this pregnancy and don't worry ... your doctor would not have said that "everything is fine" if he / she was concerned at all! Best wishes to you all. :)

I'm 22 weeks pregnant as well (with my 5th) and I have lost 17 pounds. I haven't gained back anything yet. My baby is healthy and the doctor isn't concerned... If your doctor isn't worried, you shouldn't be either!

It's so strange how different pregnancies can be for the same mama, isn't it? I gained progressively less for each pregnancy. I've also had friends who's net "gain" was really that they lost a few pounds.

I'm guessing what's happening is that you are losing weight elsewhere while the baby is growing just fine.

I'm assuming you have already had your 20 week ultrasound. If everything has been normal until now it is highly likely you are just the lucky one that hasn't gained much weight yet. Enjoy your pregnancy, and just remember it isn't the weight gain that determines the health of the baby. Proper nutrition and avoiding harmful things is the best thing you can do.

I just hit 26 weeks and my last appointment @ 25 weeks I actually hit my pre-pregancy wieght of 198#. I lost almost 10# after I found out I was pregnant and I was only about 4 weeks along when I first went to the doctors.

Your post does not say if what your pre-pregnacy weight is... but if you are "overwieght" which a lot of people say I am, then it can be normal to not gain or even to loose weight at the beginning of a pregancy. Now if you are super skinny - it is not. But if your doctor is not concerned - then don't worry about it.

Also, with my 1st - I was 118# will I was about 6 1/2 mo. My doc was starting to get concerned - he even had me writting down everything I was eating, how much and calculation the calories, but once my schedule slowed down I packed on the pounds fast and by the end of the pregnacy I did gain 42#. It Just happened that between work, school and the baby we were using everything I was eating. She was born a very healthy 7 lb 4 oz little girl and is now 16 yr old.

Oh, this is my 5 preganacy I have lost before gaining - it was only my first that I didn't loose or gain till 6 or so months. And with my last who is now a year - I never did hit my pre-pregnacy weight. The babies we all heathly and wieghted in at 7 lb 4 oz (now 7), 7 lb 4 oz (now 6), 8 lb (now 4) and 6 lb 14 oz (now 1).

Basicly - if the doctor isn't worried... then you shouldn't be either. If you are ask him/her at your next appointment. They are the best one to ask.
