Hi T.!
We went to a resort outside of Austin this summer called the Hyatt Lost Pines resort. It was soooo nice and had so much for the kids to do. It is a very manageable drive w/the 2 kids(about 3.5 hours) and that part of the state(The hill country) is really pretty. Also you can go to downtown Austin and take int the sights(UT, The Capitol building). Not sure what you are looking to spend but you can probably get a room for about $189 a night w/breakfast. It could be a very relaxing trip.

We just went on vacation to Destin, FL and had a great time! We took our 6mo old and my sister-in-law brought her 2.5 year old and her 8mo old. The sand was SO soft, the water was warm and the waves were very gentle. Great for kids!
Another GREAT place to go on vacation with kids is San Diego, CA. There is SO much to do there...the beaches, the World Famous San Diego Zoo, Sea World, The Wild Animal Park, Balboa Park (lots of open space & great museums), Coronado Island, etc. It is one of my favorite places!
If you are looking to stay in TX, San Antonio is fun with the Riverwalk, Sea World, Six Flags, and great Mexican food.
Good luck & have fun!

Have you considered staying in the area for vacation? You would save a bundle in gas or flying this way. If you want, you could even stay in a hotel if that makes it seems more special and gets you away from the everyday laundry and phones ringing.

We did this one year and the kids LOVED it! I took them to a Ranger game one night and the Wax Museum during the day, Six Flags for one full day, Hurricane Harbor for one full day. The CR Smith museum is free and is located near the American Airlines Pilot Training Center off of 360 and FAA. My son loved all the airplane memorabilia and trivia. We watched a play at Theatre Arlington, and ice skating at the Parks Mall. When we got tired, we hung out at the hotel and swam. We saw one movie during the week. The kids never cared we hadn't spent hundreds on flights or gas. We ate cheap sometimes and special other times. It was awesome! Good luck! B.
