Hello all! I have a really simple and quick question to ask you all. My son is almost 9 months (9 months next Saturday) and he eats like a champ! I make his food, which is soooo easy and fun to do. My mother in law got me those food mesh bags with a handle that you can put fruits and other soft foods in. He is supposed to hold it with some sort of fruit or yummy something and he can chomped down and enjoy without me worrying to much about him choking on a piece. I feel silly asking, but what else have you all put in those mesh bags for your kids. I know bananas is an obvious thought, but I'm stumped as to what else I can put in there. I haven't tried much, besides bananas, and an ice cube for him to suck on. My son has no teeth yet, you can see the bottom two, but nothing has broken through yet. I guess I could try just about anything, but I wanted to see what you all have tried and succeeded with, with your little ones. Thanks!

A.

since you make his food do you freeze it in cubes?? I did that with dd and since a cube would fit in there that's what i put in there. When I had fresh fruit or while i was making her food i would put chunks of the fresh stuff in there. One thing that dd loved in hers was watermelon, i'd chill everything first adn then give it to her that way it helped with teething to!

You can put about any fruit in there! Also, when teething is bad, cut up pieces of a bagel in a size that will fit and freeze them first... my son loved the taste as he knawed away and the thrill would last long enough for me to clean my kitchen!!! Good luck!

I used those with my daughter. We fed her steamed green beans, squash, and carrots. She also loved getting watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, and small peeled apple pieces. You can put bread, cookies, cake, and other goodies in there, too, as a special treat!

Over the first couple weeks, we learned which textures she seemed to prefer, and we tailored her foods based on her responses.

The apple pieces and other harder foods (like pieces of frozen waffles) helped soothe her gums as her teeth were coming through.

Hope this helps...

I used cantaloupe in one the other day. I kept giving my daughter small pieces of cantaloupe, and she would pull them out of her mouth and throw them on the floor, so we thought it may be a texture thing. And sure enough, she liked the flavor in the mesh pouch. I bet any type of melon would be really good to use. Maybe some pieces of pineapple as well? Or any hard fruits that you may not want to give him normally? Like apples or pears.

Any type of fruit that isnt too acidic-stay away from oranges and pineapples and the like. While teething you can freeze the fruit for around 30 minutes and its a tasty treat that soothes their gums :)

I used frozen strawberries and grapes. My son LOVED the taste and the coolness helped with teething. I think small crackers would work, too.

you can put pretty much any type of soft friut or veggie in them...peaches, orange slices, bananas, kiwi, peeled grapes, and stremed vegies like grean beans, peas, cauliflower, etc.

My daughter's favorite was cucumbers. She also liked bell peppers (red, yellow or orange-the thin skin just breaks away in the bag). We tried things that typical kids will not usually eat. To this day, people are amazed at how many fresh vegetables my daughter readily eats.
I would discourage you from putting anything sweet, other than fresh fruit in there. These mesh bags provide a great opportunity for parents to feed our little ones FRESH, healthy foods.
Have fun.
