Ideas for Giving Away Barely Used Stuffed Animals

My daughters stuff animals seem to be multipling! After Christmas we went through them deciding which ones to give away. But I don't want to just throw them away. Most are brand new and barely played with but they don't have tags on them anymore. Does anyone know of a charity or a place that could use these toys?

Thanks so much!

We had used toys to donate for Christmas this year and I found a place in Thornton that was able to take them. It's called The Rainbow Center (located at 2140 E 88th Ave. Thornton 80229)####-###-####. This organization provides services to those with mental illness. Many of their clients can't provide for their children so they have set up a Santa Shop that their clients can get toys from. They collect toys (including stuffed animals) all year. It sounds like a great organization to donate to. If you have more questions you can email the director at ____@____.com

Possibly a hospital? A friend's son died in the NICU last year (St. Joe's in Denver, I believe). Friends and family were asked to bring a stuffed animal to the funeral so that the family could donate them to the hospital - both as a token of their appreciation for what the hospital did and to help other parents. I think the hospital gives the stuffed animals to families in the NICU and the nursery.

You might try the Tennyson Center for Children. My church has given gently used stuffed animals there, and they have been used for the birthdays of abused kids who live at the center.

Look into donating to the Womens' Shelter. There are a lot of women with children going through a rough time that could use just about anything. There is a 2nd hand kids store on Mexico between Iliff and Mississippi in Aurora that takes donations for them. I do not know where you live but you could probably find a drop off place closer to you if need be.

Children's Hospital. Also, since you are in Westminster, check out the freecycle group on yahoo groups:

I've gotten rid of lots of this kind of stuff to people who really need it for whatever reason.

Call your local fire station. They take used stuffed animals to give to children at emergencies. Or possibly the police station too.

I read somewhere that animal shelters will take worn stuffed animals to give to the dogs as chew toys.

You can donate them to WeeCycleColorado.org, they collect gently used baby and children's items and give them to people in need of these items. The Giggling Green Bean is a drop off site at 3929 Tennyson Street.

There is also a charity and home for pregnant teens in Golden called Bridgeway. They always need stuff and would happily take the stuffed animals. You can google them. I gave a ton of my daughter's stuff to them last year. It's also a 501C3 so tax deductable.

And btw, I am with you on the stuffed animals! We have tons and my daughter only plays with a select few. They've taken over every surface of her room.
