Hi, my son desperately wants to play ice hockey but ...needs to learn how to skate! He is 10 yrs old. Does anyone have an opinion about local places or can make a recommendation? thanks! k

Center Ice in oaks - right off 422.

The Haverford Skatium might be closer for you. Its not flashy, but it gets the job done. They have lessons, public skating and rentals. My 6 yr old just signed up for The Little Rookies team, and you don' t even have to be a very good skater.
I would suggest private lessons, if you get group you're paying for a lot of standing around. There is also Ice Works in Aston, they have an amazing facility. www.iceworks.net

There is an ice skating center (almost all hockey I dont think they do many open skates) in West Chester right off of 202. I think its called Ice Line. Its in an Industrial area right off the newtown exit (I think). If you look up Hockey in West chester I am sure the exact location will come up. there is also one in Oaks right off of 422 in the 422 Business center where Target is. That may be the one called Ice Line though. The one in West Chester is much closer to you and also much nicer. They do lessons in both and also have all sorts of hockey teams for all different ages. My boyfriend is in a mens league and plays at both places. They have games all day everyday. they have travel leagues and just for fun leagues.....but just remember that it is very, very expensive to get into. We spend a fortune on my boyfriend and my son is 6 and we are starting him in it this yr.....ugh!! Not looking forward to buying him new equiptment every year when he out grows it. Good luck!
