My 3 year old son's hands shake but I only notice it when he's eating or drinking. I've only noticed this for the past week. What could cause this to happen?
I made him an appointment with his pedi. I dont know much about his dad's bio family as he was adopted. Tremors dont run in my family. Is that herititary? Diabetes run in my side both types. I realize you guys arent doctors but it's always nice to have opinions from other mom's. Thanks :)
I suggest that he's too young to have an essential tremor. I would call the pediatrician and ask this question. Shaking does seem abnormal but it may not be.
I suggest that he may just be having difficulty getting the spoon or cup to his mouth, i.e. he's still learning.
This is one of those "not a doctor" answers, if I were in your shoes I would talk to the pedi.
Definitely talk to your ped. If you can, video it with your phone.
I don't have any idea what it is but I have a friend with essential tremor and she shakes all the time - just a tremor. But that girl can draw a straighter line than me and hit a nail with a hammer better than I can!
Something to ask his doctor, S., and have him seen for, we truly can't know. Hopefully nothing serious.
I noticed my husbands hands shaking and realized it was his heart beating so hard. highblood pressure, diabeties, and abnormal heart beat. he brushed it off as nothing until he was diagnosed with the above...doing much better now!! !
the only time he was still enough was when he was eating or drinking. I wonder if his blood sugar is getting low??? who knows perhaps he is just clumbsy with his food still? ask your pedi

Oh my this is sooo freaky, I was just looking into this because I have also notice in the last few months my 3 yr olds hands shaking in the early am, holding a cup of water, or any 'fine motor' type of activities. Only difference is there is a long line of genetic essential tremors on my husbands side of the family. His sister has them, his mom, his grandfather, then also his grandfathers sister. So bottom line I'm pretty sure my son also has the same essential tremors.
My MIL said she didn't notice hers until she was closer to 8 yrs old, my SIL can't remember, but did state hers is exasperated by low blood sugar, caffeine, and fatigue. Even so once I can get the shaking on camera, I will be making an appointment to have his blood sugar tested (as type 1 diabetes runs on my side of the family) and to also rule out any other type of reason to cause the shaking. My suggestion would be to do the same.
You might call your ped and see what they say. Maybe videotape it to show them.
My mom and my aunt both have essential tremors. It got progressively worse as they got older. But medicine has really helped.
