I had a car accident Dec 28 and my son was due March 1st i was in labor with him from the day of the accident to Feb 25 when he was born many trips to the hospital and many meds to keep him in i took if i remember correctly the terburaline however it made me shake as well then they gave me visterial i think that is how you spell it. At any rate it seemed to work better it is a muscel relaxer that is safe to take in pregnancy. what the purpose of it is. It relaxes the muscels around the uterus to stop the contractions. The down side to it is it will make you sleep. And if you have another small child and are home alone during the day i would not recomend taking this med during the day. However it is something to think about for night. I only took it when i started feeling contractions coming on. so i guess the benifit of the med would be better than what you are taking. It is something to ask the Doc about anyways. I hope all is well and I am sure you will have a beutiful healthy baby girl. God never puts on us what we cant handle. I wish you well let mme know whar the doc says and how things work out.
Good Luck

I had preterm labor when I was 24 weeks and had to have 2 of the shots (in one afternoon) to stop the contractions. I'm sure your doc gave you a supply until Jan. 17th because most docs don't want to deliver before 39 weeks. So he's probably covering you to go as far as you can.

The side effects of the shots are awful, but you just have to wait them out. Try to lay down and stay warm. They made me very cold. so try to keep a heating pad on your hands or feet to keep the shakes down.

Don't worry - just relax and take it easy to keep that little girl warm and happy inside you. She needs to grow a little more before she makes her debut!

I had my baby at 32 weeks. He was due on April 30, 2006 and I had him on March 21st. They had to induce my labor because my blood pressure was so high. Then they had to do a c-section because he turned around when I dialated 10cm and was breach. He had to say in the hospital for 6 days and under oxygen for 3 days. He had to stay in the nursery until day 5 and then they let him come in my room. He weighed 4 lbs. and 11 oz. They told us that he might develop later for his age because of being premeie, but he isn't. He said his first word last Monday and he is very strong and independent. I thought my expericence might help even though I didn't go through the same thing your going through. Just know everything will turn out alright. God has a plan and will help you go through anything. You're not alone.

Hi C., I had that shot many times, however after my second preganncy with my son, I began to have palpatations and could not longer take it. There are many risks involved. It speeds your heart rate up while slowing down the heart rate of the baby. I will shake and feel like my heart was going to pop out of my chest. it is your decision, if you do not like the was it makes you feel tell your doctor and there are other options. I always had preterm labor with all four of my children, and withthe last two they just monitored me b/c i refused to take the meds. You do what you feel is best for you and your baby.

I took it over 5 years ago with my middle child ( a girl). I remember feeling wierd, but, I especially remember everyone else telling me that I looked and acted as if I was high on some drug! It's hard enough to be pregnant w/another child, adding complications and the stuff we do to keep our babies safe doesn't help. All I can say is, today it's just a memory and a story that my 5-year-old loves to hear. She thinks she's special because of all I had to do to get her into this world. Interestingly, my first and third child pregnancies were completely stress/trouble free.
Stay positive, you'll have a precious baby girl very soon!

I have had pre-term labor with my last 2 children. With my most recent (born 11/05) I was in the hosp at 25 wks and nearly every 3 wks after. My sister is also a Maternal-Fetal-Medicine doc. I have also been through all of the things that you are experiencing, and I am sorry for you. I was taking Procardia. It had a similar effect, but not as bad as the Terb. If you are 33 wks and for some reason your labor cannot be stopped, there is a very good chance that your baby will be fine. Statistics have shown that female babies (african-american female babies are the strongest) have a better chance of no respiratory complications (and you have had the steroid shot). I continued taking my meds until 35 wks. I was taken off at that point. I ended up having to be induced at 37 weeks because he decided not to come out! Try to keep her in there for as long as possible. You may want to ask your doc about Procardia. She will be fine....the things we do for our children. (PS, my 6 yr old was born at 35 weeks and 5 lbs and she was perfectly fine and sent home from the hosp on time)
