I was wondering if there is anything that I can do? I have a 6 month old, and as of right now he will not hold is own bottle. I am not sure if i should be to worried about this yet, or just wait it out.
WAIT IT OUT!!!!!! Once he starts holding his own bottle, he will become more and more independent and before you know it he will be a toddler than a preschooler and so on! You will miss your baby wanting to be babied! Enjoy the time you have with those prescious moments of cuddling because now my 2 and 3 year old boys are too busy and independent to want to hug mom let alone crawl into my lap for some cuddle time!
I would not worry at this point. My twins where so different. My daughter got it fast and was holding by 8 months (5 mths adjusted) but my son...he still wants mommy to hold his sippy cup sometimes at night before bed.
I think it's a bonding thing for them. I miss holding them while they eat:(
I wouldn't worry about it all. Babies should be held when feed anyway, they don't need to hold their bottles. I always held my sons bottle and then at one when we switched to sippy cups he held his own. He is still little-- enjoy it!
K., I wouldn't worry. Your son is probably just more comfortable with you holding it and feeding it to him. Eventually he will hit the "independent" stage and want to do everything himself! My son was more dependent longer - now my 9 mos dtr on the other hand, is completely the opposite!! She is Miss Independent, its sad, b/c I miss her being a baby already!!! So take advantage of it : )
My son didn't really hold his own bottle until around 9 months and even then, he still had to lay down to drink out of it. Not until he started using sippy cups with handles did he really get the hang of tipping things up to drink out of them. Some brands have handle attachments you can get for your bottles. That could help and it will get them ready for sippy cups too. I don't think that you should worry at 6 months though.
My son never held his own bottle. He's almost two now and there have been no negative effects at all. He has no problem feeding himself or drinking out of a cup. The way I viewed it was that why would he hold his own bottle if he had someone who was willing to hold him and feed him his bottle? Also, my pediatrician told me that neither of her children ever held their own bottles. Don't worry about it!
At six months, I wouldn't worry about it. My daughter was about 9 months before she could do it and about 10.5 - 11 months before she had any interest in doing it. You'll both just do what you always do and then suddenly he will surprise you.
