I recently moved to the Corona area and signed up my daughter to one of the local middle schools. To make a long story short it was horrible experience. My daughter went from getting B's and C's to getting F's and D's. Her attitude changed completely and she became someone I did not recognize. After many teacher/counselors meetings I realized that they simply did not care about her. I decided to pull her out (cold turkey) and home school her. I have no idea how to even begin the process of home-schooling. I don't want any responses from anyone trying to change my mind about my decision. I just need guidance on what I need to do to get started on home-schooling. It's her first day home today and I already feel guilty that I have nothing prepared for her, please help!!

What can I do next?

HI Emily,

Congrats to you for homeschooling your kids! I started homeschooling informally since my son was 2. I am now hybrid homeschooling him. He attends the Riverside Learning ( off of central in Riverside) Center through Riversprings charter school 2 days a week and the rest of the time I teach him at home.

They have a Jr High Program that meets 3 days a week and 2 days are for independent study. I have heard wonders about this charter school. Once you enroll the kids you get a credentialed teacher to guide you through and recommend curriculum. You also get the ada money that the local Jr would get for your child.
Please visit riverspringscharterschool.org or google it if I wrote it wrong.
I can put you in contact with a parent of a Jr homeschooler if you want more info.

Good Luck :)

I'm just being nosy. What school? I'm in Corona and in just over 2 years will have my daughter in Junior high. I'm nervous already! The junior high's are so big here. Was it maybe the school, the move or young teenage attitude contributing to her poor grades? I'd google homeschooling in corona and see what you come up with. Perhaps Crossroads Church (corner of Fullerton and Ontario)has a homeschool program.

I really don't know anything about homeschooling; however, our children are attending a private school that offers lunch time and PE for homeschool students. It is only for 1-2 hours out of the day and allows the children to socialize and get exercise while still attending school at home. I know that there are a few other private schools in the area that offer similiar programs for homeschooling. We live in south OC so I know it won;t help you in Corona. I thought maybe if you knew this was available you could check around and see what some of the schools in your area offer. One other idea is to check out thegraceacademy.org. When we were seaching for schools this is one that popped up in my search. It is a christian online homeschool. I did not do a whole lot of research into it since we weren't looking for homeschooling. Hope this helps, Good luck
