So What Happened?

Thanks so much for answering to me and for all the new information I got and specially for the words of encouragement!! It means a lot to me to feel the support of all of you. I am gathering my strength to quit, I am a "social and stress" smoker, but a smoker nonetheless. I have an appt. with my dr. to get those prescriptions and try that route. I'll keep you posted. THANKS AGAIN!!!!

I haven't found many people who did well with the patches. In my practice, which is an integrative, complementary one, we have had success with combining hypnotherapy, acupuncture and very specific supplements that naturally enhance your brain neurotransmitters which biochemical seems to stop the craving for the substance. Find a holistic complementary practitioner and consult with them. Hopefully there are some where you are. Good Luck!

Hello A.,
I have been a smoker on and off most of my adult life (mostly on). I only quit between babies.I used the patch each time I quit. I can't tell you how much it helped with my withdrawl symptoms! Of course, it was ultimetly up to me to decide to remain smoke free, which I have. The patch helps you quit, you must decide to persevere. I hope this helps you......I couldn't have done it without the patch. Oh, I also wanted to say I can't tell the difference between brands! Congrats!!!!! You Can Do It!!

Hi my name is K. and up until Friday I had been smoking since I was 15. I have tried everything except the hypnosis thing but my aunt did that and it did work on her. I really don't feel that hypnosis would work on a really strong willed person like me (hard headed and stuborn) so my dr. asked me to try Chantrix. Its a pill you take twice a day. It blocks the effect that nicotine has on your body. It will make you feel a little sick to your stomach or it could even make you throw up when you smoke a cigarette. Everyone I know that has tried it has quit. Sometimes it only takes 1 month and sometimes it takes 3. You might want to ask your dr. to prescribe you something for the anger. Your snap at people really easy. So to cover yourself at work, tell everyone and your boss that you are going to try to quit smoking with this medication and it will make you angry and say things that you normally would not say. Also with a few people it gives them nightmares. But still there is a depressing part every day you still want a cigarette, but then sometimes you smell one and you want to gag... Find something to do instead of picking up that cigarette out of habit. I picked SUDOKU. When I want a cigarette I grab a puzzle. I also have some sour life savers and jolly ranchers standing by. I am just at the beginning but it has work for me when nothing else has. And also with the patches, it use to say in the fine print for young children not to touch them, that it is very dangerous. I wish you all the best and I will be praying for you.

I don't smoke so I've never used them, but my husband tried them once and he said that they made him smoke more but I think that it depends on the person and the only true way of knowing wether or not it works for you is to try it for yourself. That's pretty much how it works with anything like this...including diets or diet pills. You can get reviews but in order to know if it really works for you is to try it...that's what they make their cash off of...also why they use the term,"Individual results may vary".Can't much hurt to try it if you haven't already and the road to quitting can't be paved with good intentions so why not right?

Congratulations! You just made one of the most difficult but worthwhile decisions of your life. I never used the patch, but had success with the generic form of Zyban. I quit smoking over 2 years ago. It's not a magic pill, but it makes the cravings a little more bearable. Also a book titled No-Nag, No-Guilt, Do-it-your-own-way Guide to Quitting Smoking helped me stay motivated. Good luck!!! You can do it! You are the mother of 5 and the step mom to a teenager. You certainly have the patience, persistence and tenacity it takes to quit.

Hi and congrats on your decision to quit. My husband and I both preferred the Commit Lozenges over the patch. With the lozenges, you only take one when you are feeling the urge to smoke, which really helps. Plus they go into your mouth, so they can help with the problem of keeping your mouth busy. I personally never tried the patch, but my husband did and he said they made him feel sick to his stomach. Look into the Commit Lozenges and see if they might be good for you as well. Best of luck!

My husband has tried them for him they didn't work. He stopped cold turkey for 1 yr, started again and can't stop now has only 62% of his lungs working his doctor (pulmanary) has giving him a RX to Chantix they say it works. It costs about $134 a month if you go this route and no insurance covers it you can print off the website yourrxcard.com it's about $100 with that card the website shows other medications and what the price is with their discount card. I've not had any friends be successful on the patch as of yet, sorry to say.
