I Just Moved from Chicago, Looking for Infant Playgroup

I am a mom to an 8 mos. old boy. We just moved to Long Grove from the city. There doesn't seem to be too many people in LG in their early thirties. I am very close to Lake Zurich so I need to look for play groups there possibly.
Anyone interested in getting together and having our kids meet?
I also want to make new friends!

What can I do next?

Hi K.,

Mothers and More of McHenry county can get you hooked up. I joined. $40 a year and all kinds of activities and connections for Moms and their kids....You'll never be alone. WWWW.Mothersandmore.org Great group! I am glad you are better. My little sister had lupus..She is well now and has been in remission for a few years...!

Hello K.,
I live in Long Grove and have a 15 mo. old girl. One suggestion is to join Kindermusik in Long Grove through the Park District. I belong to this and 2 of my friends have 8 mo. olds in the class. It can be pro-rated. Maybe we can meet up if you check out a class one of these Thursdays.

Meetup.com worked best for me in meeting woman in the area with similarly aged children. I know there is a group in Waucando (with several members in Lake Zurich) for babies 2 and unders. I personally attend the Libertyville Moms group (I live in Buffalo Grove) which has the oldest baby 2yo and youngest 4 months. Both groups most woman are late 20s to mids 30s. Good luck finding the right group for you...I was in your shoes 1 1/2 years ago after living in England for 2 years.

K., I have been here my whole life but find the northshore can be difficult to make new friends. I joined a health club a month ago and have gone everyday to take classes. I have met so many nice people and I actually look forward to it. they have nice clubs around here with babysitting services and it will be a chance for your child to socialized while you are taking care of yourself and making new friends. My other suggestion is to find baby classes in your area. Do they have a My gym? Gymboree? Jcc? That is where I have made some really nice friends. My kids are older or I would suggest meeting. Good luck, M.

Hi K.,

We just relo'd here a year ago from Detroit & I knew no one... I joined a mom/tot class at the Lake Z Park & Rec. It was great to get out & I met a few really nice mom's. I also did the mom/tot class at the Lake Z Gymnastics & met even more great mom's there. It's a matter of you get out & about. I found that being the "new" person to the area - it was up to me. Everyone here already had established friends & wasn't really seeking new ones. I had to do most of the work to find & pursue new friendships.... We've been here a year now & I have a great new social network. Just start looking around for opportunities to get out & about. You'll be amazed at how fast you can network with other mom's that way. Good Luck!

Hi K.,

I am part of a great moms group called Mom-2-Mom but we aren't too close to your area. You might try to google moms clubs or even see if there is a meetup group near you. There is also a website called matchingmoms.org, you can see if there are any registered moms in your area to set up playgroups.

Good luck
C.
