When it come to PMS, I have always been moody, but.... I do not want to take this out on my family! i have a wonderful husband and a sweet toddler, who do not desearve a short tempered mommy.
During one week every month, i barely trust myself to speak to people because i am afraid i will noit be civil, or will yell at them for something they dont desearve. i even avoided hangoing out with friends last night because i wasnt sure i could keep from snaping at them over nothing!
is it like this for any one else?
did birth control help?
did ANYTHING help?

1 week out of every 4 is just too often to feel this way!

I have been diagnosed with PMDD and was on a variety of antidepressants for several years. I finally was tired of the side affects and went off them now I take Shaklee GLA and a multi vitamin with 1000IU vitamin D (just started those and recently found out I am Vitamin D deficient) Vitamin D I guess plays a HUGE role in moodiness.

I could have written this a year ago! I went to my annual gyn appt, and I told her that if I didn't get help for my pms, my husband was probably going to leave me (not really). But during those 5 days before I started by period, I could stab someone and think nothing of it. Some days, I wanted to walk out the front door and leave my family and never return. After talking she explained that I had pmdd rather than pms. She then proceeded to change my life...no joke. She gave me a prescription to take 7 days out of the month, the week before I start, so the day I start, I take my last pill. The other 21 days of the month, I take nothing. It worked. It controls my rage and hatefulness toward my husband. He thanked me on the first month I had the meds. He said I was a different person!

Please go tomorrow and tell your gyn that you need help getting through that week!

I take "Vitex" by Nature's Way.
It is a natural supplement.
It helps my PMS a ton.
But each person is different.

Go to a Whole Foods. I have found the store people to be VERY helpful and knowledgeable about it. That is what I did.

Try getting a bottle of evening primrose capsules -- they sell them at HEB and Walgreen's. Take one or two on the mornings when you wake up feeling "crazy" and they should help your mood. They sure do mine! And it's not a prescription, it's all-natural, and you just take it when you need it. Good luck!

Oh goodness YES!!! I can always feel when my period is coming on by the way my mood is.....and it's not a pretty mood. I struggled horribly to keep it under control until I finally had to admit that I needed more help. I talked to my OB/GYN and they switched my birth control to YAZ. It definitely has cut down on how psycho I was getting for sure! I can now go out and not feel like I'm ready to snap and I can even laugh if I go out for a girls night. However, S.H. gave a good suggestion, I may try her tip too:)

I was the same way for several years while menstruating, it sort of vanished after awhile. Everyone knew to leave me alone.

Definitely talk to your gynecologist about this. There ARE things out there that can help! It might be that your hormones can be regulated better, or you have a vitamin deficiency, or some hypoglycemia due to hormone changes. This is not just something you have to live with...your gyn can help.

Consider this: Of the 52 weeks that are in a year, you are averaging 12 of them during which you are in a sh*tty mood. That's THREE MONTHS of PMS every year!!!

That alone would be motivation to get me to a clinic.

Yes, as I matured, I had to get on antidepressants. I became aggressive and could not control it. Best thing I ever did..

You really just have to learn calming techniques. Such as deep breathing, counting to ten, reassuring yourself that you are likely overreacting and that people are undeserving of a mouth off, reminding yourself that you are capable of remaining in control.

Dr. Sears has some good advice here:

I found supplements that totally cleared mine up and then enabled me to sail through menopause--while all the other women in my family had to have hysterectomies. Let me know if you are interested.

Good question.. I'm the SAME way. It's horrible!!!! I don't sleep well either, so add that to my PMS... I don't like being around myself about a week before my period, can't imagine how others are feeling about me....

I had such severe cramps and bleeding that although I didn't have PMS, I was completely at odds with the world during my period. The pill didn't help because it would only stop one or the other and I hate taking drugs. Instead of putting more drugs into your system (I wish our world wasn't a pop-a-pill-to-feel-better kind of world) and making your liver deal with it, google "PMS and diet" to get ideas for changing your diet during that week or right before.

Also, be sure to get enough sleep and exercise. Sleep may be tough for a young mom, but put the baby in a stroller and go outside and walk around the block - everyday, even twice a day. Just a few minutes a day of fresh air (picture fresh oxygen pulsing through your veins) will be so worth it!
