I Can't Find Clothes!

I need some help, mamas! I have such a hard time finding clothes, that fit. Currently, I have to shop in juniors sizes, but I find them so juvenile and don't actually like them. I can't wear petite sizes, because they aren't "petite" enough (usually) and when they are the legs and arms are way too short. Currently, I can only wear Levis jeans, because they have my size in long. I'm happy with them, but I can't find nice pants that fit and aren't too short. I can't find shirts, that are small enough. Places like Old Navy and Gap don't work, I have to get girls sizes! I hate having to dress like a teenager, just to find clothes that fit. People often think I'm my son's babysitter or sister and it drives me crazy. I think, if I could find clothes that aren't made for a 15 year old, people wouldn't think I'm so young. I actually look my age, but the way I dress is more similar to my 12 year old nice...UGH! Any ideas or suggestions?

Have you tried new york and co. They have professional attire in many sizes including xs. And their pants come in long. Also, you may consider having some things altered. Buy what you like and get it taken in.

find a seamstress, it will be expensive but your clothes will fit and will be adult styled in your own fashion. My mom has the same problem but she likes wearing kid clothes so she's happy.

Have you tried Lands End and LL Bean? Their stuff is really classic looking (I think) and they seem to have a wide range of sizes. Their stuff also wears like iron, so you will have it for a good long time, which somewhat justifies the higher price. Plus they will let you return stuff that does not fit.

Maybe I have lost track of what constitutes a juniors size, and I'm a little confused over what does and doesn't work for you.......I would love to be small enough to shop in juniors! sigh........

I also like Elizabeth M.'s suggestion of finding a seamstress, either for making your clothes outright, or for altering ready-made ones. Or you could try sewing yourself.

Good luck!

My daughter has the same issue and we have found that Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft are a gold mine. They make stylish, classy clothes that are not immature trendy. They carry an extensive petite section and their sale racks are amazing in the small petite sizes. Last week we found a $60 pair of NICE black capris for $3.66! SCORE! I would definately give them a try. Talbots also has a petite line and the same goes on their sale racks. Even though these are expensive stores, you can still dress great and get some amazing bargains.

I agree, Express is where I have to shop! They have size 0 and their pants and jeans come in short, regular and long. They also carry small and X-small tops. Their clothes are definitely not all "junior" style and look great for any kind of corporate job. I'm not a petite size (the arms are too short on me too) and I'm good with a size small top at Express. If your tinier than me then an x-small will fit you perfectly! I find a size 0 regular jean is perfect at Express and I love how the pants come in different lengths.

I also find that buying basics in the juniors department helps save money. I buy basic tees and plain tops and then pair them with Express jackets and such.

Good luck! I know how it is!

Oh, I soooo have the same problem. I have found that Khols does have some nice juniors clothes. I'm 5'3" and 100 lbs and my 13 year old niece gives me her hand-me-downs. Sigh!

Have you tried Kohls? I find that their juniors department isnt always as childish in their dressy clothes. I buy some of them for work.

I agree with Elizabeth that a seamstress would help.

What I'm hearing is that you're slender, but not that short since petit is too short to fit. Maybe 5'5 - 5'7"? Size 00-2? An inseam of maybe 28-30? An A/B cup? (If I'm off base, please correct with specifics).

If I'm right... you're perfectly sized for couture clothes (sigh); talking Chanel, Wang, Prada, etc. If you can afford that... check out Saks, Bergdorfs, etc.

ANYHOW, for less than $600 per shirt ;), but in the more normal range of $30-$80 ... for 5'2 -5'9, at or under a size 10/12... check out the following:

http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Womens-Clothing.html (UK sizing I LOVE, even though I can't wear clothes from this company because I'm too tall, love love love UK sizes... and boden makes phenom clothes)

Nordstroms... get a personal shopper to help you navigate, or go online at www.nordstroms.com

www.express.com

It's still eminently possible to not shop teeny-bopper while in the Jrs depts, however. Classic and classy (meaning blacks, beiges, greys, and neutrals... with good structure and simple lines), sweaters, button ups, camisols.

I'm that way also 5'4" (to long waisted for petite clothes) but 106 lbs so I need a size 0-2, I have found that at Dillards I can wear the brand Antonio Melani and it fits me like a glove!!! (which I have bought on ebay also) and not teen at all, stylish but still like and adult. I can also wear some things from NY & CO, and Chico's size 00 fits me pretty good also. I have had terrible luck with Kohls but it seem others have had better luck there, maybe I will have to try again, it has been a long time since I've been there. I definitely feel your pain. I do have a great seamstress that can tweek things for me if I need it, and she doesn't charge me a fortune either.

I'm not sure what size you are or what type of clothes you are looking for but I see that you said you want things long. I am 5'9 and all legs and always had trouble getting things long enough. Express has good slacks that come in a size zero long and GAP has zero and double zero long jeans online. You can't get those sizes in the store but on the website. Good luck!

I currently weigh 90 and am 5'2" and am 51 years old. I can't find any store that can age appropriately fit me. I can only find jeans at "Buckle" and finding dress clothes is impossible. Does anyone have a suggestion? I can wear petites in dresses and tops but not pants because I have long legs so all petite pants are too short and usually too big around for me. Help.
