I have hardwoods throughout my first floor and I love them. I get tons of compliments on them and I think it is a look that is timeless. However, you do have to clean water spills immediately. So, if you aren't up for that, go with concrete.

The only potential downside to the concrete is that it is harder on your legs and back to stand on for long periods. If you do a lot of cooking, or dishwashing, you may want to consider that.

We have stained concrete and I kinda wish we would have done hardwood. One good thing about the concrete is that with kids you don't have to worry about scratches and stuff...very easy upkeep.

I don't know too much about concrete floors but we put slate in our kitchen and we love it because it NEVER looks dirty! It's a "Chinese Slate" that is different shades of browns, greys etc. (all earth tones). Hardwood floors look great but I've had friends tell me that can get really stained with kiddos around. Hope that helps!

If you have children and/or animals I'd got with the stained concrete. Water and water leaks or spills that aren't cleaned up immediately can really mess up the wood floors. I've got a couple of humps in mine, (from where water has made the wood expand) - they will have to be cut out and replaced.

I'm definitely for stained concrete! I LOVE the way it looks and it is so much more durable.
Random Food for Thought - I saw an episode of Debbie Travis' Painted House (I think that's what the show is called) where she redid her own personal kitchen and she put rolled steel sheets on her floor. They had to have a special coat of some kind to make them good for a kitchen (water spills and all) but they were GORGEOUS! We're thinking about doing that in our kitchen. She said they are less expensive and super durable.

Stained and stamped would be my choice.

Will it depends on your style of your kitchen. Concrete is definetly easier to take care of in the kitchen but wood floors look good. Nowadays they can stain concrete and do amazing things with it. I guess I would go with the concrete floors, you can always put wood in later if you hate it.
Good Luck

stained concrete all the way! If I had my druthers, I'd rip up all my wood floors and get stained concrete all throughout our entire downstairs. if you don't have children or dogs, wood floors are great but scratches aren't cheaply repaired and water can damage them.
