My husband(who was told that he can't have any children) and I just found out that we are pregnant today. We had unprotected sex on the 31st of January and I did a test today, 2 actually, both being positive. Is it normal to have high HCG levels 8 days after unprotected sex?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I had my first ultrasound today and I am 10 weeks and 1 day prego. So not as far along as I though. I am due October 18.

Now I don't want to scare you but high HCG levels can also mean that you are pregnant with multiples. Make doctors appt and see what they have to say. Congratulations!!!

I wouldnt say it was impossible.. I have a friend that got a positive 10 days after having unprotected sex. She was positive about her conception date (they were not intimate that often at that time) and she started to feel the symptoms of being pregnant and took the test and it was positive.. When she had her ultrasound around what she thought was 13 weeks they agreed with her on her around about time of conception.. so I would just say everyone is different you never know and I wouldn't say it's impossible..

I have taken several Child Development courses...if an egg is going to be fertilized and conception is going to occur, it will have to happen in a 24-hour period after ovulation....then the fertilized egg can take from 7-14 days to travel and implant, releasing HCG upon implantation...today is the 9th, so that is actually 10 days from your sexual encounter...so yes, it is possible that you are lucky enough to know the actual date of conception:) Congrats!

Yes. Some of the newer home pregnancy tests are very sensitive and can detect a very slight change in your hormone levels. Have it verified by a doctor and start your prenatal care now. Congratulations!! unexpected miracles can bring great joy that lasts a lifetime. Again, congrats!!!

My first positive test was at 6 days past sex! Sooo yes it could just be that you are 8 days along. But you could also be further, hard to tell for sure until you get an u/s

That's awefully fast to get a positive. Its possible that you are further along than that, and the protection failed. Wouldn't be the first time.

Congrats.

I don't mean to scare you, but it could very well mean that you have twins in there forming! get checked as soon as possible - I had three times the normal amount just three weeks after conception! I called it love potion #10! ;-) Congratulations to you both!

I know my sister has taken test the day after her period is due & it has come back positive and she has always been. I'm not sure how long it takes to tell... some test work faster then others. I usually show signs before I even try taking a test, but most of the time I think I am - I am.

If you think you are go see the doc & et checked out. It never hurts to have an extra doc appointment, plus the earlier you start your prenatal the better it is for your baby.

Who told you hubby he couldn't have kids?? Personnaly I have two fertility specialist tell me I couldn't have anymore kids in 2001, but I had a kid in 2004, 2005, 2007 and am due in July 2010. So, doctors can be wrong... it's just wasn't my time to have any from 1994-2003 - lol eventhough we did try for almost that whole time. LOL - my hubby always tells people "yes, we have a lot of kids, but the doctor said she was broken so we thought we didn't have to worry about her getting prego."

Congratz & good luck with it all!

within 8 days, it would be unlikely that the fertilized egg has even implanted yet, which is when hcg starts being secreted and can be detected on a test. I agree with the previous poster that it is more likely that contraception failed you and you are further along. When was your last period? Either way, there really are no false positives so Congratulations!

I have to say yes, I could accept one false positive, but two? These tests have come a long way and are very sensitive. I've been preggo 4 times and each time almost immediately I have low back pain. This pain (which only occurs during my pregnancies) is a better indication for me that a positive test. I took a test 7 days after conception and it was positive, had a blood test which could barely detect a pregnancy, but here I am, 8 months along!!
Congratulations!!

I third the idea that if you are preggers, it likely happened before the 31st. I don't think you'd even be "technically" pregnant yet if you only had sex on the 31st. However, I have to disagree that there are no false positives... There have been false positives, but it's very rare. Certain things you are exposed to can potentially cause a false positive. However, if it is a false positive, you could have just left the test strip sitting too long - they can and will show a false positive if they sit for too long.

Wait a couple of weeks. Obviously whoever told your husband that did not know enough about regeneration in the human reproductive system.
At 19 a doctor told me I could never get pregnant. Today Never has her own child. That told me never to really believe what a doctor tells you. Always get a second opinion.
I hope you turn out to really have a normal pregnancy and a healthy baby.

Make an appt. to see your doctor. While it's possible that you conceived on the 31st and that everything is okay, it's also possible that things aren't okay. I had a positive home test when I didn't think I should have and I ended up miscarrying the pregnancy. I hope you don't go through that, but no matter what, seeing your doctor early is best for you and baby.

I would tend to lean towards that you are further along than 8 days........ From what I've read, you would only technically be a day or so pregnant at the most and it is highly unlikely that you would test positive at that...... It is posible to get pregnant even if you are using a form of birth control. So, I would go from the first day of your last period and assume that you got pregnant between day 10 and 20 of that cycle........

You could always call the doc and get a blood test. If it comes back positive they will more than likely schedule an ultrasound to pinpoint your due date.

Could it be possible that you got pregnant last month? That would explain the positive tests for sure. Even if not, if you used an early response test it would be possible for you to get a positive result that early. Congratulations on being pregnant!
