Dont yell at me too bad! The kids had walking pneumonia, and googling the symptoms of pneumonia tonight, Im pretty certain my husband and I have it too. Probably for about a week or so.. But my friend took off work tomorrow so we could finish Christmas shopping. How serious is this? Could I push the doctors visit one more day?

I know this sounds horrible, so be nice! I hate disappointing people!

What can I do next?

Please think of the people that you could pass it to. Ones with children who have leukemia, mom's with and autoimmune disease, the elderly.... the list goes on. For you, some antibiotics and maybe inhalers are enough, for others they could end up in the hospital... or worse.

Um, you're joking right? If you're sick, take care of yourself. Your friend is a FRIEND. She will understand that you're sick and can't make it. It's not like you're cancelling so you can lie around and watch Oprah.

And walking pneumonia is contagious. Why would you put other people at risk? That would sure be disappointing if they contracted it because you couldn't say no.

Not sure what the difference is but I had pheumonia I had a hard time kicking over the summer. NOT fun at all! Please don't go out and expose others to this....Think of how disappointed THOSE people would be to have to miss work, family, be in the hospital, and for some it is very dangerous.

My Mom, had walking Pneumonia once.
Her Doctor wanted her to be kept in the Hospital.
She, had other ideas. Went home.
Oh I'll be fine, she said.
It can be very dangerous.
Walking Pneumonia is named as such, not because you should be out and about walking around. But because, people have it and don't know it. Thus, they just go about their usual. Even if they are sick.
But then they may, end up in the Hospital.

My Mom, has a lung scar now.
Won't go away.
Her lungs are now, intrinsically weaker.
And as such, she has to be careful of any cold or lung illness, she has.

Which is more important?
Pleasing people and going out with them, and they know you are sick.
Or staying home and taking care of yourself? Mind you, your family can get it again.
There is bacterial Pneumonia or viral.
It can be, contagious.
Unless you have been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours.

I have had Pneumonia too.
Plus I have Asthma.

Your friend can still go shopping sans you.
She took the day off already.
Would she want you to go, if she knew you are sick and/or may have Pneumonia?

Whatever you decide, I would not tell your friend, at the last... minute.

And by the way, it took my Mom... a LONG time, to recover from her illness. A LONG time.
And you have kids in the home.
Kids and elderly, are more delicate if they get it. Meaning, dangerous.

First of all, a true friend will always understand and WANT you to take care of yourself first and foremost.
Two, the pneumonia itself isn't contagious, it's the underlying bacteria or virus that caused it.
Be on the safe side, get better and STAY HOME.

The longer you put off taking care of yourself, the longer and harder it will be to recover. Pneumonia is not to be taken lightly, it is serious and can have serious consequences if not treated. You don't want to be a "statistic". It would be a bigger disappointment if you weren't around for Christmas, like in the hospital or worse.

Stay home. Not only are you likely to feel horrible but also likely to pass it on to someone else, who may have a weakened immune system. Pneumonia kills more elderly, immune compromised and children than the the flu, especially this time of year.

Your friend can go shopping by herself on her day off, or she can go into work and take a day off next week.

Please don't go honey.
Take care of yourself.
It's not worth it and your friend "should" understand.
Disappointment (on her part) is a part of life.
Please take some down time for yourself so it doesn't get worse and you are out of commission for your kids. And heaven forbid for Christmas.
Do you really want to be "down for the count" for when it really matters or in the hosptial?
What if it DOES GET WORSE and you are in the hospital (Heaven Forbid) on Christmas. Being in the hosp w/o my kids on C-mas would be more devastating to me than having to make that cancellation call to my friend.
Get rest honey AND take care of yourself!
Best wishes & good health!!

You need to take care of yourself. Do you have a fever? If so, do not go out shopping. If not, then put a mask on and go. But you have to see how you feel, you do not want to end up in the hospital for a shopping excursion. I am sure your friend will understand. Hope you feel better soon and can enjoy the holidays.

Go to the doctor in the afternoon. Shop in the morning. Buy one of those facemasks and just bite the bullet and wear it. You'll look crazy to people, but they will appreciate that you aren't breathing on them. So will your friend! Call and get the appointment as soon as they open so that you'll get the appointment.

Hope you don't crash before you get all your shopping done! And hope you feel better soon!

Don't push it Molly. So many people blow this off as not serious, only to contract something worse. You wouldn't want to miss Christmas with your children for a silly trip to a crazy mall or stores where you'll be in close quarters with coughing, dribbling and draining people sick with who knows what illnesses.

If it's not too late call your friend tonight and cancel, citing that you have walking pneumonia and it is the catching variety. I'm sure she wouldn't want to get it if she knew what it is and what it feels like to have it.

I especially wouldn't go shopping if you or your children have been on antibiotics. You need the rest.

Just an FYI, I had walkng pneumonia and blew off taking time off from work and wound up sick and near death. It took me 6 months to beat it. Never again will I push myself with something that is really a serious illness. Don't do it, stay home so you can have a truly Merry Christmas with your children next weekend... one that doesn't involve being in bed miserable and missing the fun.

If you can't cancel tonight, don't delay calling her in the morning to cancel. The upside to keep in mind is, whether you're with her or not, if she needs to get her holiday shopping done tommorrow and took time off to do it, your cancelling will not affect her plans in anyway in the big scheme of things. It was something she needed to do with or without you. So don't feel guilty. She'll miss you of course, but if she's a dear friend she'll understand!

If YOU still have shopping to do, there is always the internet and 2-day and overnight shipping. Paying the extra money to get delivered on time is well worth it if it means avoiding urgent care or the ER, in the coming days or weeks. :P

Take your vitamins, have nice hot soup, pamper yourself tommorrow. It's all the better if hubby is home too. Take care of yourself and everyone around you by staying home.
