We've test driven both of these vehicles and love both. The Elantra has a better warranty than the Fusion. We'd like to hear if you have these vehicles the good and the bad. We are also looking at Toyota Camry Hybrid and Toyota Prius. Thanks for your help!

I responded before but I have to post again about how much I love my Fusion Hybrid. Seriously, I love this car. Look at consumer reports. Also, Click and Clack the Car Brothers from NPR hate the Fusion (they have a list of cars they hate) because they see it as so reliable and thus they make no money from it...;-)

Some things I really, really like: gas mileage, comfort of interior, smooth driving and handling, rear back up video/warning system, Sync system for USB stuff (ipod and phone) and side mirror warning light indicators that show when it is not safe to pass. I also think it looks really cool. Also, the driver's seat fits me really well...I am 5'5" and about 120, so I am on the smaller side, but I feel like the car fits me perfectly.

Love my car!

Love the Fusion!!! It gets great gas mileage, is roomy, and is very comfortable for long trips. We have driven it to Montana and Texas several times and have never had any problems with it. It is the best car we have ever owned!

It doesnt matter WHAT kind of vehicle you want. Meaning, Ford vs Hyundai. There are good and bad vehicles out there made by ALL auto makers. I will say this, from expierience...foriegn cars are more expensive to repair. IF you decide on the Elantra....good...BUT, should you need repairs down the line AFTER the warranty, it will cost you a heck of alot more than a Ford. Now, the Ford doesnt have as long of a warranty....BUT, will probably run longer than the Hyundai.

I would stay away from Toyota all together. Just my opinion.

M:)
I drove a Ford(Ranger) for 192 thousand miles....all I ever needed was a 150 dollar water pump...at the 105 mark. (my ex still drives that thing, its a 92)
EDIT: I drive a Ford F-150 now...wouldnt trade it for the world...its an '06 and running strong.

I bought an elantra when I graduated college over 10 years ago. It has been very reliable and any work it has needed even close to the 10 year mark was completely covered by the ten year warranty. I found the service department in Denton to be very good. In fact, once they even told me I really did NOT need something done (was not covered by warranty) that I thought I might need. I have never tried a Fusion. As for Toyota, I think the recalls are speaking for themselves. Good luck. I hate car shopping!

I have a Hyundai Elantra and have been driving it for 4 years. I love my car and hope to have it for many years to come. In fact, I would purchase another one in the future (Santa Fe). I had a Ford Taurus many years ago that had transmission issues among other problems and haven't purchased a Ford since. Toyota used to make quality cars (I'm not sure about the recall business now) and the few of my family and friends that have owned one had them last for years. That all being said, I think that a car will last for as long as you take car of it. Quality can be good across the board, but if the driver doesn't maintain their car, it won't last, regardless of make.

I have experienced a Ford car (not a fusion, though) and the Elantra. I have had our Elantra for 5 years. I LOVE it. The only minor problem I had, the warranty covered. Other then that, there has been no problem. It gets great gas mileage. I will say, the Hyundai warranty, is one of the very best out there.
Like I said, I had another Ford...but I really hated it. I love Ford trucks, but not the cars. Among many other things, the timing belt went out constantly. (which is very expensive to fix, I might add) The mechanic's comment was always, "That's a Ford, for ya." Apparently, this is a big problem in Ford cars. (I don't know about the Fusion, you'd really have to check into that one.) Another thing, the Fords have terrible resale value. They just don't hold their value, at all. Hyundai's don't have the best...I mean it's not a Honda or anything. It is better then Ford, though. Obviously, I'm biased. I have had such a good experience with my Hyundai. I would really look into the timing belt thing, though. Go with your gut!!

I would never buy a Ford again, my husband's family has had like 6 of them, all 6 have always broken down or had constant "minor" issues (but still to take them in, get it fixed was a pain and time away from family/life!) so it really added up to headaches imo. My family has had 4 Hyundais and no problems with any of them - my husband finally converted and bought an 09 elantra and we love it, no problems and great gas mileage!! :)
