Hi C.,

I did hypno birthing and it was great! I would just recommend only allowing people that totally support hypno birthing in with you or get a doula to be there with you.

I used it and took the class 5 years ago with my daughter with success. My labor was just under 4 hours. You have to be very open to the process. It was a much easier recovery than with my first daughter. It really is a personal preference. I would say it is worth looking into.

I used some Hyp Birth cds and they worked well to help me focus and remove myself from the frustration of pain. I felt completely in control, just very relaxed. They didn't really match my Christian world-view, but I was able to adjust my imagery and do just fine. They are very "new age." I used them in two drug-free labors.

I did Hypnobabies and LOVED it. Unfortunately I still ended up with an epi (after 18 hours of going without any pain meds though, my baby was HUGE, not coming, almost had to do a c/s so the epi was the last resort before c/s...if he would have been smaller like my first and come quick like my first (3 hrs) I would have easily gone with nothing but the hypnobabies, it was great and I really recommend them. If you're interested in buying mine let me know, I just had my baby two months ago so they are new and it's the whole "at home Hypnobabies.com course"...

C.,
Many have responded to your request for information about "HypnoBirthing" with information about "Hypnobabies". Although perhaps similar, these are not the same.

Hypnobirthing is also called the "Marie Mongan method" after the founder Marie Mongan. HypnoBirthing is a course that you take with a certified practitioner - there is also a book and CDs that go along with the course. You learn different relaxation techniques, and also learn about the anatomical process of birthing - what the muscles are actually doing and how you can help your body work most efficiently, instead of unintentionally hindering.

I took the Hypnobirthing course and used this method during my birthing. It is what got me through 27 hours of labor with no pain medication, and only minor discomfort, although I did end up with an unplanned c-section for other reasons. I highly recommend HypnoBirthing - the theory and reasoning behind the method is very sound, and it just made sense to me. You can get more information, as well as list of local practitioners at their website: www.hypnobirthing.com

I am happy to talk with you more about it if you like - just send me a message.

Hope that helps!
-M.

A friend of mine did it and it worked very well for her. I think it's an individual thing though, as everyone is different in how they respond to hypnosis. One thing she mentioned is to chose a trigger spot - a spot on your body that you use to come "out" of things - that isn't touched during birth. For example, not the knee :) - the nose or earlobe is much less likely to be bumped accidentally so you won't come out of the hypnosis when you don't want to

I used Hynobabies and enjoyed listening to the CDs and praticing self-hypnosis. It felt like a kind of meditation to me, and helped me get through the last stages of my pregnancy with a high degree of calm and contentedness.

I can't say whether or not it helped me during labor and delivery. I tried my best to get into a state of self-hypnosis, but I was on Pitocin and it was just too much. I did go 32 hours before I got an epidural (8 hrs was on Pit), so it's very possible that hypnobabies helped me last that long laboring naturally. But, I can't say that I had the ideal Hypnobabies birth experience.

I hear that there's a lot of difference between Hypnobabies and Hypnobirthing, but am unsure of those differences. Even though my birth experience was not what I expected, I would still recommend Hypnobabies.

I used hypnobirthing and I absolutely loved it. It was amazing. I had an induced delivery of my daughter at 34 weeks due to premature rupture of membranes, and even with all that pitocin dripping into me, I had a relatively painless birth. Had it not been for the pitocin and for the episiotomy, I honestly think it would have been a totally pain-free experience. As someone else suggested, it helps to have people around you who are positive. My husband was the worst skeptic and I finally had to scold him pretty severely, pointing out that we had spent the money for me to take the class, I had spent the time going to the class (which he chose not to attend with me), and if he wanted to undermine all of that, he would have to do it outside in the hall with the nurses. He shut up, and I had a good birth experience in spite of him. :) My mom had 5 kids, all natural childbirth, and she was amazed by the process. It was exactly what I wanted, and if I could be lucky enough to get pregnant again, I would do hypnobirthing again in a heartbeat. I cannot say enough nice things about it. My hypnobirthing teacher was Nadine Romain. I don't know if she's still teaching it, but she's fantastic.

there is a great book called "hypno babies". I di dnot personally do this method when I gave birth but I know several women who have. It is really just a method of focus and pain management. I have seen it be very helpful and successful in helping acheive a natural, un-medicated and even on some occaisions pain free birth.

Hi C.!

I did Hypno Birthing with my son & had an amazing delivery. Let's just say that I wasn't even given an IV until AFTER my son was born! I'd definitely do it again with my next pregnancy!

I purchased & read the book HypnoBirthday: The Mongan Method by Marie Mongan (www.hypnobirthing.com)... (the pic of the book is on there too). It told me everything I needed to know... didn't take any classes either(not even the Lamaze classes).

I DEFINITELY recommend Hypno Birthing! Good luck on your venture!!
