So now we are trying to get it fixed, he is on omycest which is a antibodie because he was on amoxicillin twice before but the other dr never let me keep him on it long so they tried something new but i was wondering what are some natural home remedies that i can give to help get better and throung the pain? I seen that they have a hyland earache tablets and earache drops has anyone ever used them and are they safe? thanks

You can give him tylenol for infants or ibuprofin for infants. Also, when my chiropractors kids had ear infections he would put 3 drops of lavender oil in their ears to help clear the infection. That may be something else you might want to try.

when i was a child, my mom used to clean our ears with hydrogen peroxide and I don't think we ever had ear infections.
With my kids, I got a dropper and as soon as they seemed to be getting something, I would put a couple drops of hydrogen peroxide into the ear, let it sit for about 15 seconds, then put the head up and let it run out. Repeat several times a day for each ear.
Once I started using this, I don't think my kids ever got another ear infection.

My son suffered through more ear infections than I can count from the time he was 6 months old until he was 18 months. I never used the hyland tablets but my mother clued me into an old home remedy. Chop up a few cloves of garlic and put them in a small container filled with olive oil. Let it sit a few days. A few drops of this warm oil can be placed in the ear to soothe an earache. Garlic is a natural antibiotic.

I don't know about the hyland earache tablets. I would stick with the antibody regime subscribed by your doctor and be AGRESSIVE with him.

Years ago where I worked (1980s), we had a working mother whose daughter had an earache. Her husband was out of town that time. So, from the story that I heard, she gave her daughter some over the counter pain reliever when in fact she should have taken off from work and have seen her pediatrician. The OTC meds did not work. The toddler had a severe ear infection and LOST her hearing.

I am not in touch with the family and they live on the other side of town, but that marriage did end in divorce. So, my advice is to hammer your pediatrician about your son's ear problems. Your son's hearing MIGHT be affected by any missed steps. Good Luck.

Just so you know I would be diligent. My daughter had her first double ear infection at 6 weeks old. I always thought it was strange. SHe is now 13 and we are still dealing with ear/sinus infections. We have gone to an allergist and found only one allergy but she is still getting sick. Finally this month the doctor said we should do blood tests on her and we find that she has a immune deficiency. So she got a pneumonia vaccine and flu shot yesterday. I am hoping I'll see improvement from her. We do have to follow up in 2 months and recheck her to see if there is improvement. I am now going to work with another doctor to find a way to naturally boost her immune system. The doctor told me this hereditary and probably passed on by my gene. Culterelle is a product you can buy at most drug stores. It is a probiotic to help promote good bacteria in the body. SHe takes it daily and it was recommended by the doctor especially when she is on a antibiotic which she just got put on one yesterday. If you do feel he is getting too many infections you need to find out what is causing them. They need to rule out allergies, any physical issues with the ear, nose, throat and also rule out immune issues or vitamin deficiencies. It is taken 13 years to find out about the answer to something that has been nagging me since she was born. You are you child's advocate. Regarding ear pain either advil or motrin or tylonel whichever works for your child. I know the doctor did prescribe some ear drops for my daughter a couple months ago that she said would help the ear canal drain. I have never tried home remedies yet. Good luck to you.

One thing a lot of natural mamas use instead of ABX is garlic oil. A few drops a couple times a day will get rid of the infection most the time, although I'm not sure if he's had it a while if it gets worse and worse. If you warm it just a bit it will feel good in his ear as well.
Good Luck:)

Yes, I have used them for a long time and they do work and are safe. My chiropractor also uses them and you can use the teething tablets for the earache too, they seem to work inerchangeable. I hope he's feeling better soon. I also use the AURO ear relief drops and Wally's ear oil (not all at the same time) so try those too when you are up to it.

I've used the teething tablets and swear by them. Nothing else worked...I mean nothing. Also I've used the hyland Ezema cream...I'd swear by that too...again nothing else worked. If it were me I'd give it a try. Hyland produces good products from my experience.

Stick with what the doctor gives. For teething, use the ora-gel or other over the counter gels. Also, some Tylenol if he is in great pain.

I know you said home remedies but I have to tell you that I used tylenol (motrin instead of tylenol if there was a fever)and it helped us get through the nights, naps and fussy parts of the day. We have had chronic ear infections (greater than 5 a year for the past 5 almost 6 years).
The ear drops were a huge fight for us, not worth the effort because it including crying for 45 minutes and holding him down.
The tablets I never tried. I know the teething tablets seemed to work for him but never tried the ones for ears.
Best of luck!

I've never tried their earache remedy, but I LOVE their teething tablets. They are natural, so safer than some other meds. Just make sure to follow the instructions directly since even natural things can be harmful in too high quantities.

Also, (this is going to sound totally GROSS, but it worked when I was a kid) if you smoke or know someone who does, you can have them inhale on a cigarette and blow the smoke into his ears and then plug them with cotton. I know, this sounds totally nasty and isn't something I would do as we do not smoke or allow it in our home, but my mom used to do this with my brother and myself.

I would give the Hyland's a shot though. Like I said, I love their teether tablets.

I understand your pain, my boys had repeat infections & both had to have p.e.tubes(this was about 22 yrs ago).Last winter I had a major ear ache & I bought a homeopathic brand called "Similasan Earache Relief"(safe for all ages)at Giant Eagle. It was wonderful,I put a couple drops in my ear and used a cotton ball to keep the air out (air made my ear hurt even more).I was very pleased with the way it helped ease the pain and after a couple of days... I was all better.

Raise the head of the mattress by putting a folded towel under it. I used to hold my son on my lap and and steam up the bathroom with the hot water running in the shower.I would sing songs. I'd put some eucalyptus essential oil on the floor of the shower (plug the tub).
Also it is not advisable to give honey to children under two years old because honey can contain botulism (common) and we do not develop the antibody until after age two -to be safe. Most honey is not pasteurized (it would ruin the medicinal benefits)The Vicks remedy really does help. Plus lots of water.

Hylands products do a good job, but an even better product is Auro (I think that's how it is spelled) eardrops from Walmart. (At our Walmart if you find the drops that clean out the earwax and look to the left of them you can find the drops for pain.)
For my kids and myself I have also found that moist heat works well to help relieve the pain. we have a rice bag that we heat in the microwave.

Hope this helps... Good luck with your little one.

Do you not want to use anti-biotics? Ear infections are painful and can be extremely dangerous if not treated properly. With a double ear infection I am curious why your doctor is not providing anti-biotics? I am not one to push medicine on my child but sometimes a bad infection warrants it. I would consider requesting anti-biotics to get the infection under control as opposed to a natural remedy at this point. Good luck.

If you let your baby sleep propped up it will lessen the pain. When my son layed down to sleep he was crying all the time it hurt so bad. We used the sofa, and slept near. Good for you on getting a new doctor. Once I let my husband and uncle watch our daughter, she had a swollen area behind her ear from water. They put camphophenic in her ear. I was so embarressed at the urgent care center when the doctor cleaned her ear out. HMM whats this green stuff? I was told never put anything in your babys ears, so now that you have a new doctor ask them about the drops. No sweet oil, no lavendar oil, please. Motrin pediatric dose is the way to go, and always keep them ears covered when outside.
