My 15 month old is a handfull. If he doesn't get his way, he has a hissy fit. He falls backwards, frontwards or whatever way he feels if he doesn't get his way. His dad can just say his name and hell stop in his tracks, but when i call myself being assertive he just laughs and keeps falling out as usual. His head is going to be a diffrient shape by the time hes two because he ends up with so many knots on his head. Somebody please help me. Is he too young to be tapped on the leg for discipline or what should i do ?

What can I do next?

My son is almost 18 months and he gets a pop on the butt when he cuts up and doesnt want to listen and starts throwing a fit or he sits in time out. I wont say he is too young but when you do it you should explain to him why he is getting a tap on his leg or a time out. My son has a certain chair her at home and at his grandmothers house for time out, we use it first before he gets a pop on his butt. Hope this helps but also remember he is testing his bounderies at this age. Have a good day.

I have the same problem - my son is 14 months and throw a fit whenever he doesn't get his way. But neither my husband or myself have been able to get him to stop the fits. I have tried tapping him on his leg which doesn't seem to help - he just screams louder. In desperate need of advice too!

I would never advise spanking a child.
If he's throwing himself on the floor, pick him up, put him in his bed, and make him stay there until he calms down. After he calms down, make it clear that the answer is still "No."

My daughter is 10 months old. She is already walking and just this past week she has started throwing fits everytime she doesn't get her way. She would throw herself backwards until she hit her head on the kitchen floor, now she throws herself foward while in a sitting position and just wails. I have begun to tap her on the leg to get her attention. I do not do it hard enough to really hurt her, just surprise her. To me, if I do not stop her from doing this now, I will never be able to.

My son is now 3 and still throws fits. They aren't as frequent as they used to be, thank goodness. I tell mine he can go to his room or go to bed if he wants to throw a fit. Then I ignore the fit in hopes that he will soon learn this isn't how you get what you want. When he notices I'm not paying attention to the fit and he isn't going to get what he wants he quickly quits and moves to something else. However, he is now pulling if mommy won't let me have it I'll hit daddy or sissy up for it. Just keep in mind children the age yours is are still learning to deal with the feelings of frustration and anger. They are in the process of learning the proper outlets for it. Good luck.

just slide a pillow under his head and let him finish his little fit. he is probably trying to get your attention and he knows this works. ignore him. when he stops getting the desired response he will stop this particular tactic. it may get worse before its gets better, but as long as you stick to your guns your son will learn that you are to be respected just as much as daddy. whatever you do, don't give in. all he is doing is testing his boundaries, and you are teaching him how to treat you.
