it sounds like a lot of moms are staying home and working from home. I am curious how you find time to work (especially if it requires phone calls) when your little ones are home?

What can I do next?

Hi B.! I work with the Mom Team...so it is pretty much a given that we will have background noise. I just work aroundmy kids, and set my schedule to work with my life. I have 4 month old twins and a 4 year old, so life is pretty crazy! I love being able to work from home with them at my side though! I have been working from home for three years since leaving my career as an elementary school teacher to stay home and raise my own children.(ages 4 and 2)
I have found it is pretty easy with my business to balance mom and work from home. I set my own hours so it is very flexible, you can take days or weeks off at a time if needed and the calls I do are all informational overview and they are muted out so no one hears my background noise :) Every once in awhile when I am setting an appt. my children are heard in the background but that comes with the territory. Most of the people I talk to are other moms wanting to work from home so it helps them to see that it is okay :)
I mainly schedule my calls during nap time and in the evenings once the kids are in bed etc.
If you are interested in learning more you can visit www.WorkAtHomeUnited.com/jobs to request info and I will contact you to schedule an overview call so you can determine if this might be a good fit for you and your family

I work around my family's schedule. I work primarily in the evenings when my boys go to bed and/or when Dad is home to keep them occupied. It is so worth it!!! :) I have a headset with a mute button so I can walk around the house, still taking care of my family, when I am working. It can so be done. By the way, I have identical twin 4 year old boys and a 2 1/2 year old boy. I'd be happy to give you all of the information about how I work from home. :)

Well I work at home in the early Am when no one is awake,
and work about 3 hours and then the kids get up and
I am able to be home with my 2 toddlers.

Then at bedtime I work another 3 hours,
but my husband is home so he can check on them also
and I can work. They know when its time for me to go to work.
They give me a kiss and close the door, and my daughter tells me bye and she only 2. I get a break after about 1.5 hours
and I go check on them and give them a kiss and tell them goodnight.

This lets me be a stay at home Mom, make some money for our family, saves gas on commuting, and childcare for 2 toddlers
was taking a big part of my paycheck that I get to save now.
I work fewer hours but I dont feel like I am missing everything with my kids and Iknow they are safe.

I do in-home wine tastings like Janet...I work around my and my kid's schedule. I do the tastings in the evening sans kids and whatever work needs to be done on the phone (which isn't a lot)I try to do when the girls are napping (or having "quiet time" as is the case with my 4 1/2 y/o).

I do things in the evening or in the mornings while they are sleeping...and if I get on the computer while they are awake, try to do it for brief intervals so they still get attention from me.

The best part about having your own home-based business is that you get to set your own hours. Make a schedule and stick to it. I do business from 1:30 to 3:30. If someone calls me at 1 when I am putting the girls down, I let it go to voicemail and return the call when I am "working".

If you'd like more info on wine tastings, check out Janet's website at www.TasteYourWineAtHome.com

Let either of us know if you have any questions!

Cheers!

I have two sets of twins, but I have full time nannies for each of them. I have not been able to work when they are home without nannies, except for the brief period that they happen to be asleep. I find that just having one child at home is not quite so bad, but with two they just are too active or fighting or getting into something. Now with 4 it's pretty impossible.

It sounds like you ladies have good ieads for working at home. I have also read that sometimes it is suggested that a sitter/nanny be hired to keep your child occupied while you do do your work from home so that you are distracted. You must separate work from being home mommy by setting work hours. Keep to your hours unless your child is ill. You also must put a little time (30 min) in there daily for yourself so that you don't get burned out trying to help out. May your pursuits be prosperous.

My Hub has a nice headset that has a mute switch so when he isn't talking and he can flip the switch and still hear... reduces noise carried over the line...just make sure double sure it is really switched before getting cross with the kids ; ). Personally, I can't concentrate when the kids are around and I am trying to do business on the phone so I only do business calls during nap time.

I have worked from home for the past 8 years. I found out very quickly with the type of work I do that having kids home while I'm working did not work out at all. Back when I worked full-time, I took my daughter, who is now 8, to day care. Now that I'm working more part-time, I take my son, who is 3, to a drop-off day care center 2 to 3 times a week when I think I will have work. My daughter's in school now and when she gets home, she's old enough that she does her homework and then plays by herself or with the neighbors until I'm done or her dad gets home. On days when I get work unexpectedly and my son is at home with me, I just have to do it in spurts so he doesn't feel too neglected. A lot of times I'm typing and he's sitting at my feet playing with his Power Ranger or cars or something. I'll put him up on my lap every once in a while and that makes him happy, and I always take a few breaks where I'll play with him or watch Lazy Town or some other show on Noggin or PBS Kids with him. I rarely have phone calls related to my business. I do most of my work by IM or email. Fortunately, the people I deal with know I work at home so if I do have to have a phone call and they hear my son in the background, it's expected so it's not really an issue. We make due on days my son is home and I end up getting work, but for the most part, if I know I have work, I have to take him to the sitters. Otherwise, I don't get all of my work done in a timely manner or he doesn't get enough attention from Mom. I've found I can't really do both effectively.

Hey--

I've found a survey company that pays for you to rate different websites. I wanted to wait and make sure it's legit, but I just got paid $50 into my paypal account, so I feel good about it. It's a survey place--you get paid according to the survey you take. If you're interested in reading about this, follow this link:
http://tryvindale.com/VchYGh2ID
They pay you once your account reaches $50. They pay out twice a month. You're rating online sites (I've done Blockbuster, Stamps.com and others). The only thing is you need a credit card AND you have to cancel memberships once you've signed up on the sites. I have an organized way to do this--it's easy really. I just list the company I signed up with, the date I signed up, when the trial period is over, when I've received the money in my survey account and when I've cancelled. If you don't cancel, you won't make money b/c you'll pay the fees of the companies you signed up for. Also, I don't take every survey--just the ones I'm comfortable with. I've even called the companies numbers before I put in my credit card info to make sure I could reach someone to cancel. So far, it's been pretty easy to do. Good luck!

Hey B.!

I am a full-time SAHM and I still contribute to our family income. I, too, work from home during business hours. I have a one year old son who, luckily, still takes two naps a day. I make my phone calls while he's napping and after he goes to bed at night, between 7-8:45pm. I have an understanding with my husband and so two nights per week, he watches our son while I make my calls and get in some other stuff too.

I am a Representative for Silpada Designs Jewelry! I leave the house for very few hours a week in the evenings and on weekends when my husband is home, so we save on childcare costs and anxiety! These are the hours I've set for myself because you can choose when you want to work. The rest of the time, I work from home. This has saved me!

It is a VERY profitable business! I typically average $75 an hour and make my own schedule. I make GOOD money and I'm surrounded by a huge Silpada support system, along with free training from successful Silpada women, five days a week, in addition to one on one coaching. I can even earn free vacations! Browse my website below and go to the Business Opportunity section to learn more about what I do. It has impacted my life in an amazing way!

I love this business and never want to do anything else! It's a great way for us SAHMs to connect with other women and adults! Visit my website and call me anytime ###-###-#### - I would gladly answer any questions you may have. Let me know if I can help you in any way! Did I mention it was also FUN?!?

make the most of the time you have. I do about 30 min in the morning before the kids are up, phone calls etc at nap time, smetimes I let them watch 1 1 hr video in the day, and after they are in bed at night. I have been at home for 6 yrs now, only started working this past summer and am loving it. It gives me a little something extra, not just money but something besides just being mom. I have 3 children 6, 3, and 1, we homeschool and I am a wine consultant so I don't need a lot of phone time, and I do my wine tastings in the evening when my hubby is home.

I hear ya girl. You have to learn how to manage your time and when the best times to call your prospects are. I make sure my are clean, fed, happy and playing before dialing. Most prospects you talk to evaluate if they can do your business by what you do in that first initial contact. I haven't had anyone complain about the kids being happy in the background. Most of the time, moms think it's cool. It actually gives you more creditibility because you are working from home. Work at home united is a good team. I am on a very similiar team with the same company. I love it.
I wish you well on your search.

HI - I have 2 daughters, 1 is at school during the day, the other 3 yrs old is home with me. She has learned (after some trial and error!) that when I have my headset on, she has to be quiet. She plays, watches tv, "reads" to herself etc. She knows that when it's her turn, I'll spend time with her etc.

Also, what I do is my biz...I set my own hours. Like the other moms, I can work early, late, real late, nap time, etc...Even a very very very small amount of time of Sat if need be. (not very often)

I'd love to talk to you about what I do, if you want to hear. If not, good luck and I wish you the best of luck. Just remember to make it a family thing...you are working to make life better for all of you. Headset/phone time is quiet time.
