How to Organize Hair Accessories

I have one small drawer dedicated to just hair bows, clips, etc. for my daughter. Some of the items are very tiny. It's always a big mess, and I'd like to organize it so I can easily see things. Does anyone have ideas for how to do this? Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

I have what I call a "hair bin". It's just one of the Sterilite show off containers (see-through) with lid & handle on top. I have my daughters accessories separated by colors in ziploc baggies (all reds in one baggie, yellows in another baggies, and so on). This helps me when I'm looking for certain colors to go with their outfits. I don't have to do a lot of searching. The bin I have is big enough that I have their combs, brushes, and hair care products in there as well (and small enough that they can carry it from their room). It's so convenient for us. I just pull up a chair and grab the bin. And we can take it with us if we need to do a touch-up or something along the way to somewhere. I hope this helps or gives you some ideas.

I took tulle from Michaels and tied a bow and made the strands ver long. I attached them to my daughters wall with push pins and I click all her hair accessories on that. I have about 5 of them on her wall.

I bought some 3 drawer organizer boxes at Target. I'm not sure of their dimensions, but they're small enough that they fit on my daughter's closet shelf. Each drawer holds a specific color w/ every kind of hair bow, pony holder, etc in that drawer. It makes getting dressed & coordinated much easier. Even my husband can figure out what to put in her hair ( most of the time! LOL! )

We use the over-the-door shoe holder, and it works great!

Try to find one with clear pouches so it is easier to see what is in each pouch.

Headbands fit nicely between two pouches.

We have filled ours with lots of things- ponytails, clips, ribbons, shoelaces, etc...
The clip bows can be clipped right to the pouch so you can see them.

We also use one pouch to accumulate the hair things that she has outgrown. Then I can easily empty it every once in a while.

(This is also a great organizer in the master bathroom for Mommy's things!)

Hope that helps!!

I put my rubberbands around a empty papertowel holder. You could put the small clips in a bead box. You can get them at Michaels. It is just a plastic box with a lid and has small square compartments in it.

I bought a small tool box and used glitter stickers on it to make it more girlie.

A friend saved the plastic Gerber food containers for me and I kept the McDonald milk containers. I used this for heer small stuff.

For the bows I had some shiney fabric left from an outfit. I made a long strip and hung it on the wall.

My sister-in-law gets little drawstring bags when she goes to showers. She lets us have them and we put matching things for her outfits in them and put them over the hnger hook. That way we dont have to search in the morning for something.

I allow the girls to pick out some pretty tins, like what candy or cookies comes in and they chose what they want to put in those tins. That way they know which ones is for what.
A great way to recyle something. Plus I have picked up alot of different kinds of tins at garage sales for almost nothing.
Each tin represent thier likes and what it holds
Then I have a basket that sits on the bathroom counter that holds thier brushes and combs.

I use a bead organizer. There are 20 compartments and I organize her bows/clips/hairties by style and color.

I use a cosmetic bag. It's not really organized but it keeps everything together.

This is an area I am always trying to improve as well, but so far I use the lil' disposable bowls with lids (they are solid colors and in the baby feeding aisle). I have the small and larger ones that I sort the small hair stuff in and the bigger ponytails all go into a bigger bucket. Hope that helps. I have all my kids hair stuff, lotion, nail clippers, etc. in a portable file box so I can move it around the house and have everything all together. Not sure these containers will work in a drawer, but they might.

Fishing box or ice cube trays.
Ice cube trays you can stack and your tiny items will fit in their own little compartments.
Fishing box will get it out of your drawer and in it's own little place either in her room or in the kitchen. I always did my little sisters hair while they ate their breakfast, getting ready for school, so naturally there was a drawer in the kitchen with ribbons and ponytails.

Good luck,
Val

I keep a ribbon tied to the closet rod in my daughters closet. I keep the clips and barrets attached to the ribbon. It works great! I keep the rubber bands attached to a shower curtain ring and that allows me to keep them all together and untangled! good luck!

With 2 girls I have tons of hair stuff and I am a PERFECTIONIST when it comes to organization. First off, for hair bows, we have a ribbon nailed to the wall (you can use a push pin), the ribbon just hangs down and we clip hair bows on it. I always had a ribbon for my bows when I was growing up. Then for pony tail holders they are just around the soap pump in the bathroom, always easy to find and easy to put back. for little clippies and things I like the baby food jar idea, but we have those kinds of things just in a cosmetic bag under the sink.

I have seen the cutest way to organize hair stuff. Buy a wood letter for her name and then staple or glue on the back two long ribbons or more and then you can clip the barrettes right on it.you could do a skinny one for the little tiny ones. And I think the pony tail stuff probably just wrap around...looks super cute and you can put it right to the wall or closet, etc...

I took a piece of posterboard (the really thick kind) and covered it in some really cute fabric and then drapped four or five pieces of ribbon over spacing them evenly and glued each end on the back of the board. I hung it on her closet door. It is decorative and very useful. It is really cute! Let me know if you have any questions. I can email pictures if you want.

I use those small plastic boxes w/ 3 drawers (they are about 9 in X 9 in)from Target. I have 3 of them on my daughter's shelf in her closet. Everything is sorted by color/holiday: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, black & white, brown & metallic, seasonal. It's worked for me and I am so not organized. Everything for that color (hairbows, elastics, barrettes, etc.) is in the same drawer so getting my daughter dressed is much easier. Hope this helps.

You can use a tray with dividers (like one used for screws and nails) or I hang all of the clips on pieces of fabric and I put all of the ponytail holders onto old shower curtain rings.

If you know anyone that is using baby food, the plastic gerber containers are great for clips, rubberbands etc. They work great- I wish I would have saved more.

I've seen those over the door hangers that hold shoes used as an organizer for hair accessories. They are usually plastic and hang nicely behind the bathroom door. I have used them to hold barbie dolls in the past in my childs closet. They are up and out of the way and frees up your drawer & cabinet space. I've also used a pretty ribbon hanging on the wall with hair clips clipped on it.
