How to Get T-shirts Softer and Athletic Socks Whiter?

Hi! Does anyone have a suggestion on how to make cotton t-shirts softer--other than Downy or other fabric softners? Some of my t-shirts are soft on their own, but I like to work out in the cheap Old Navy and Wal-Mart patriotic shirts. They're not so soft. Also, I need to whiten a bunch of athletic socks. Any suggestions besides bleach? Thank you so much!!!

What can I do next?

For whitening socks: Every week I mix up some (1 cup) BIZ in a bucket of water (size depends on how many socks you have in a week) The dirty socks go into the bucket to soak for the week until I time to wash. I love BIZ. I can usually get any stain out by making a paste on the stain & soaking for a few days.
Good luck.

I too use vinegar as a fabric softener, and I use BIZ to whiten.

First congrats on working out and losing 8 lbs!! WooHoo way to go!! :o)

I use Prespot, Solumel, Melapower and Melasoft to whiten, clean and soften my clothes (also for getting tough stains out). Not only do they work fantastic...but they don't have any harmful toxins or harsh chemicals in them!!!

Good luck and keep up the good work (out)!!!

I have recently switched from using downy to using 1/4 cup vinegar as my fabric softener. I have a HE washer so I just put it in the fabric softener dish just like I would downy. I was skeptical at first but have found that my clothes are much softer and it has been helping with my sons eczema. The other day I washed my comforter with downy and was amazed that I no longer liked the strong perfume smell that I had loved so much in the past.

i use plain white vinegar instead of fabric softener i think it makes my clothes softer & it doesnt smell once it dries...& i use hydrogen peroxide to whiten.
