How to Get Rid of Ladybugs

I just started getting "invaded"... okay not really invaded, but I deep cleaned my house this weekend when I came across a few ladybugs in my living room ceiling (5 or 6) on Friday evening. Then I saw some more on Monday (another 4) and today again (I justed killed 7). We don't have an older home and have never had a problem with unwanted visitors of any kind... and I don't keep food out. Any help on how to get rid of the ladybugs would be great.

Like the previous responder said these are Japanese Beetle that bite so they are not harmless. I got bit on the back once while taking a shower. Scared the you know what out of me. In my home they hang out by the warm sunny windows. I sprayed Raid Flying Insect bug spray at the very top of the window only (so my little ones wouldn't get into it) and wiped the rest of the window down with cleaner. The bugs always seemed to go to the top of the window, they would get this stuff on them and die. I would just sweep them up right when I got home from work before the girls could get to them. Though the girls do like getting a tissue and putting them in the garbage. These beetles seem really bad this year. Good luck.

I lived in IL for a few years a couple years ago. This happened to us, too. I read online somewhere that a sugar water solution placed in shallow bowls would help. I put a couple around and it did attract some of them. Good luck to all!

These beetles were brought in to help eat pests on the crops a few years ago. Unfortunately they have become their own infestation. It's because they're harvesting crops right now that they're having to find a new home. I'm afraid you just have to wait it out until it gets colder. Just do your best to keep the house closed until they go away!

These ladybugs are probably the beetles which smell when you squish them. We have been getting them every year in the fall for the past 4-5 years in large quantities (hundreds, maybe). It seems when the weather changes, they can come in from the smallest cracks. We live in a brand new and very solid home, and they seem to somehow squeeze in. In the evenings, when they group together in the corner of the room by the ceiling (this room is on the southwest side of the home), we take the Shop Vac and suck them up and throw them out. We actually remove the Vac from the inside of our home so they have no chance of escaping from the Vac to get back in. Even if you leave them alone (and don't squish them), they leave little orange/red "poops" on your paint job.

Good luck and thanks for your question!

I agree with the last mom, lady bugs bring good luck!
(Just make sure they are lady bugs and not the orange bugs).

I'll bet your "ladybugs" are actually orange. If so, they are not ladybugs. They are asian beetles. Asian beetles are harmless, but they sometimes bite. They also emit an unpleasant odor when they are crushed (so I won't squish them with my bare hand). I don't think you are doing anything to attract them -- the population has been growing year over year, and this is the time of year they want to get in the house. I wish I had some great advice, but I've got them too. You'll probably find them mostly on the warmest side of the house (the Southwest corner).
