How to Find Someone Higher Up?

I need to file a complaint on my insurance agent. She owns her part, and works for allstate. Would she have a boss, a superior, anything? I google'd a couple of different things and I came up with nothing. She called me today and ripped me up one side and down the other for 30 minutes for not telling her that my house was on the market. It was truly unreal. I thought I must be on candid camera at one point. She called me a liar, and insulted me personally a few times and I was speechless. I actually asked her who I could call to report her, and she said "call 1-800-allstate". There must be someone who is above her? I need to let someone know how I was treated. And you better bet I will spread the word in my town to stay far away from her.

What can I do next?

Your best bet would be to send your complaint in writing to:
Tom Wilson, CEO
2775 Sanders Road
Northbrook, IL 60062

Tom has an entire department dedicated to resolving customer issues. This department takes complaints much more seriously than any Allstate manager would. They also include a deadline for the complaint resolution by the agency force so rest assured multiple managers will look into your complaint. Make sure you include your policy number(s) and good contact number. By going this route, every level between the top (Tom) and the bottom (agent) is aware of the complaint. This includes any market-level managers, regional managers and sales vice presidents.

Good luck with this!

There are regional and state directors for Allstate, she has to report to both of these. Call the Allstate number and ask for the regional director for your area

I suggest that the 1-800 allstate is the right answer. She owns the business and is not answerable to anyone except herself. However, I think Allstate could decide to not allow her to have their "franchise."

When you call the number tell them you want to file a complaint about an agent and they will direct your call.

I had a problem with my Nationwide agent a few years ago when he did not cancel my homeowner's policy (I had switched companies) and my mortgage company paid them also.

I went on the Nationwide website and found a regional office number, and an 800 number, filed a complaint, and they processed my refund check that same day.

Check the web site again.
Also, your state's insurance commissioner may have a "higher up" phone number that you can call. See about filing a complaint with the insurance commissioner also.
Call another Allstate agent and switch your coverage to another agent - they will be happy to get the business and can probably direct you to a higher up.

Whatever you do - move you account. I just don't get treating a customer like dirt - after all she gets a commission every time you pay your premium.

Good Luck
God Bless

What in the world? I have sold 2 houses and neither time did it occur to me to notify my homeowner's insurance agent that my house was on the market! I didn't contact her until I found the NEW house, each time!

Is there more to this story?

Jeesh! I guess we know who NOT to call next time, right?

Report her to the Ohio Department of Insurance: Consumer Hotline: 1-800-686-1526. That is her "boss". Funny, I live in northeast Ohio, and had an Allstate agent (who was an owner of her agency) treat me the same way, she was appalling and I would never go back to ALlstate because of that. I am also a licensed agent, and would know better than to treat my customers that way - how does she think she'd get paid if she lost all of her clients???? GOod luck.

I work for an Insurance company (not Allstate) but where I work, the agents have sales managers they have to report to. I would try to call the 1-800# for Allstate and ask the represenative for the name of her Sales Manager and contact them and then also send a complaint to corporate headquarters.

I would contact corporate headquarters. Here's the info. I would send a letter and in the letter request that you be contacted.

I've never sold a house, but if I put my home on the market, I wouldn't even think of notifying my insurance agent.

I would also file a report with the Better Business Bureau.

Of course the first thing I'd do is find a new agent and cancel my policy.

She sounds like a bully. She needs to be put in her place otherwise she will continue pushing people around. I would file a complaint against her in the better business bureau then I would call see if there is a organization locally that you can file a complaint against her. Call city hall in your area they could probably point you in the right direction. Good luck.

You might aslo want to contact te Better Bussiness Beauruo (sp?) as well. They should know as well about people like her. They might also be able to assist you in finding the right person to talk to.

I'm sorry this happened. Good luck in getting this resolved.

She sounds like a tool. I've never notified my insurance agent of putting a house up for sale!
I'd have a new agent TODAY. It's not like other companies aren't BEGGING for new business.
BTW, last year we switched from Allstate to Nationwide and are saving a bundle! My husband suggested we give out Allstate rep a chance to "match the bid" and I said "NO WAY--he's been taking our overpriced premiums for too many years!"

If you really want to go to the top call a stock broker and ask for Allstates' corporate headquarters. The president of allstate is the top dog. Allstate also has a vice president and has a board of directors. Those are the top people in allstate. Then find your state's insurance board or commission.

Write to them. If you really want to have an impact send the letters by snail mail. Personal letters by customers are very rare and get a lot of attention. These people will send the letters down to the people above her and it will eventually trickle down to her. If allstate is smart it will come down like an avalanche, not a trickle. But Allstate used to be part of Sears and Sears almost went bankrupt because they didn't care about their customers (I'm one of them.) In my case I went to Sears to buy some slacks for my wife. My Sears credit card info was out of date and they wouldn't let me use it so I charged the slacks on my mastercard. 7 months later they billed me for the slacks on my Sears card. I refused to pay and they sent the credit reporting agencies a charge off notice. It almost kept me from buying a house. Sears consumer relations didn't care and wouldn't believe me. I used to buy ever bit of the clothes my family wore from Sears plus all my tools and lawn equipment. I now haven't been in Sears in more than 25 years. Sears threw away my business for 2 pair of slacks.

Detail what happened and quotes if you can remember.

Good luck to you and yours.
