Can anyone help me find a way so that we can download the dvd's we currently own onto our Ipod. We were able to copy over all of are CD's but are having difficulty with the DVD's. We were able to copy a movie over but each "scene" from a movie was it's own movie - so it didn't work right. What are we doing wrong? I just want to be able to bring the Ipod on vacation instead of the portable DVD player too...when I really shouldnt need both.
Thanks

Update: I am totally not trying to do anything illegal. If I am correct, regarding making copies of movies and music you already own - you are allowed 1 copy for "back-up". I would like to use our Ipod as the back-up version. If it can't be done, then it can't be done - I just couldn't find a correct way to do it. Thanks!

What can I do next?

legally it can't be done :) you need to start buying the ones with the DVD copy (if you have blu ray that is..) But like Kate B. said you need to find a program to
rip the movie, even still you may want to steer clear of itunes to transfer.. sometimes they catch illegally obtained things and delete them..

you need an application to "rip" the movie in its entirety, which can then be added to the library in iTunes, then moved onto the iPod. I use one called handBrake on my Mac, you be able to find more for PC. Google "DVD rip" and look for a free one, or one that has a trial period.

You can buy many movies from ITunes and when you purchase DVD's in the future (Disney does this well) get the one that comes with the Digital Copy ... mind you can only use it ONCE! We have a TON of movies on our IPod and that is how it was done.

Look online for a free dvd ripper. you need to convert it from a dvd to an mp4. I had a free one on my computer (it was a trial, you could convert like 5 on the free trial) but I can't remember what it was, and I just had my computer revamped so its gone now. But I kow you can find on if you search it.

Its not illegal to make a copy of your own movie. Its if you start selling them thats the problem, or making mass copies. I put a bunch of our movies onto my iPod touch when we traveled for our adoption so we had something t owatch if we got bored while out of the country, and also for our new daughter to watch while we traveled on three planes and 14 hours of flights total.
