How to Clean Playtex Sippy Cups?

Hi moms! My almost 16 month old son has been off the bottle since 12 months and is doing great with a sippy cup. We use the Playtex brand and they have been wonderful. However, we have noticed recently that no matter what we do to clean them, the milk and juice tends to really stick to the hard to clean areas. We do not have a dish washer. Do you have any advice for a safe, effective way to clean them? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I would do as others have suggested -- get a little brush or Q Tip to get the gunk out. If you still feel it isn't clean enough, you could sterilize them with a bottle sterilizer. I wouldn't boil them though. Some plastics can't handle being boiled, like the "take n toss" cups.

I soak them in hot water and then use a toothpick.

A bottle brush with the nipple brush included works great. Soak them in a sink full of hot water first to break down the stuff inside before you scrub them. Also if you refill the same cup throughout the day, rinse out the top and remove the spill proof piece and then then dry with a paper towel between uses. That always works for me and i rarely have to soak and scrub anymore. Good luck

You can boil them, that might help.

I always used q-tips! A dishwasher wouldn't help, I promise :)

Soak them for awhile and then use pipe cleaners to get into the nooks and crannies!

I use the same cups and never use the dishwasher, just daily rinse under hot water with dish soap and use one of those bottle brushes for cleaning. The bottle brush actually has a smaller brush on the end for hard to reach places that I use to clean some of the milk that gets caked in the crevaces.

I don't remember the brand of sippy cups we used, but our diswasher didn't clean my daughter's cups thouroughly everytime. So, I would take each piece of the sippy cup apart, set the cup in the sink, add some dishliquid, boil water in my teapot and pour it into the cup. Then drop the spill proof piece into the cup and place the lid on top upside down and pour more boiling water into lid until completely full. Let soak until cool and rewash. Worked everytime!

You can use a low concentrated bleach and water solution like you would use on toys. Perfectly safe and clean everytime. Due it for my kids sippy cups 2 x a month. Hope this helps! Plus after I soak in bleach I do rewash is dishwater and rinse well.
