How to Clean a Smelly Microwave?

Ok so I was doing too many things at once yesterday and I put my daughters Easy Mac in the microwave without adding water. Needless to say it started a fire in my mircowave, not actual flames, but lots of smoke. I finally got the house aired out, now when I use the microwave it smells the same smoke smell. Any suggestions? I want to get it lemon fresh again?

What can I do next?

take a bowl of water and add some baking soda to it. Put it in the microwave and heat till the water boils. Let it sit for a few minutes so that the steam from the water stays in the microwave and condenses. Then just wipe with a clean cloth/paper towel.

this usually works for me.

Vanilla, I use it for everything, it even gets the fishy smell out of the cooler when the boys go fishing. Just clean the microwave out real good, you can make a past out of regular dish soap and baking soda (might neutralize the odor some) and then wipe it down with vanilla. You can even put some vanilla on a cloth and leave it in the micorwave, but don't heat it up, just shut it up in there.

I agree with the M. who talked about the lemon. Take a lemon half and put it in the bowl. Fill it up half way and nuke it for about 1 minute. Let it sit in there for a few minutes and then open it up. Your smell should be gone.
Good Luck!

If these other ideas don't work, use half water and half vinegar and boil for a couple of minutes, wipe down. (yes, it will smell like pickles for a day or so but should help with the smoke smell).

I was thinking I had read before about heating a bowl of water with lemon to help break up stuff stuck in a microwave, but was thinking that it might help the smell too. Of course like the previous poster said airing it out.

This is any easy fix. Take a glass bowl, like a medium size mixing bowl, and fill it half with water, and add 1 cup of baking soda. Put it in your microwave for several minutes. The steam will help clean your microwave and the baking soda will take care of the smell. Then just wipe out the inside with a paper towel, the steam really helps with the cleaning. Don't do what I did though, do not, use the water in the bowl, it is a mess trying to get the baking soda off after it dries. Good luck.

Keep it open for couple of hours..like you aired out of your home. You would be good.
