My son wet the bed last night, enough to leak through the waterproof mattress pad onto the mattress... Anyone know how I can clean the mattress?

What can I do next?

If you have a little steam carpet cleaner or know someone with one, use it.

If not, dilute the stain with a water/febreeze mix and blot it up with an absorbent towel. Then spray the heck out of it with febreeze and let it air dry.

I poured baking soda over the wet spot when my daughter vomited on the bed. I let it set all day while we were at work and then vacuumed up the baking soda. I haven't smelled it since. I should add that I rubbed it into the wet spot and then piled on more and let it sit just to be sure =)

When my dauter wet the bed, I sprayed it lightly with my Resolve carpet cleaner, waited about 30 seconds then scrubbed with a wet rag - making sure to get up all the carpet cleaner. Then I put folded up towels on the wet part and put heavy books on the towels all day. When I got home from work the towels were wet and the bed was try and pretty much stain free. Good luck!

Clean with a pet stain remover and then perhaps a good spray of Oust and let it dry well with a fan in the room or open window.
A good linen store should carry a zippered mattress protector that keeps out allergens and is water proof if you're not into the vinyl cover idea.
Then put a good quilted 100% cotton pad over that has polyester stuffing - the cotton stuffing gets hard and lumpy and takes forever in the dryer.
the waterproof pads really aren't 100% waterproof as you've learned and they're hot and dont breathe.

Hi Mama-
THere are a couple of ways to clean the mattress. One is with white vinegar and baking soda.
The second is with urine off or nature's miracle (they are not just for pets!). Soak the spot and let it sit. Then take a towel after the recommended time on the bottle and sop up whatever else. THEN, prop up the mattress with a fan on it and let it air dry.
I have not tried the baking soda and vinegar, but the nature's miracle worked great for me.
Hope this helps

White vinegar is a good thing to use to neutralize the odor of urine. I would simply dampen a cloth with a solution of white vinegar and water... probably about half and half... and wipe the area well. Perhaps use a wet/dry vac to remove some of the excess moisture and let the mattress dry.
Do you have one of the mattress protectors that completely covers the mattress or just a pad on the bed? If you put a plastic cover over the entire mattress, then use a pad under the sheet, it should keep this from happening again. I got nice zippered mattress covers at WalMart for less than $10 for our beds. I cover those with a quilted mattress cover and then put the waterproof pad between the quilted cover and the bottom sheet. That way, if there is a problem with the pad not holding, I have to wash the sheets and the quilted cover, but the mattress is well protected.
