How to Clean a High Chair

I have a high chair that folds up, so the seats and straps don't come out of it like bigger ones. The tray does come off, so thats not a problem. But this thing is GROSS. My son is 14 months old and LOVES to feed himself and the dog, so the high chair is covered in food stains. I vacuum it out every few days to get the big food particles, but I'm not really sure how to clean the back and bottom of the seats because they don't come out.

Any suggestions?

The seat is COSCO brand, and it says the fabric is polyester.

What can I do next?

Take it outside and hose that sucker down!! I usually would spray a little Formula 409 or some type of cleaner as I sprayed; worked great!! If you can't go outside, then use the shower.

Good luck!!!

I always took mine outside and used the hose on the power stream setting on it. Got the nooks, crannies, and straps clean. Then I left it in the sun to dry.

What brand is the chair? A lot of manufacturers have instuctions for cleaning on thier web sites.

What material are the seats made of? That would make a difference in the how they are cleaned.

I don't know what to suggest-my Grandson has a high chair that really should be strapped to a car and run through a car wash! At least the straps come off and the two layers of padding-all machine washable-but it's really difficult-can you at least take it outside and hose it down-then extract the water with a carpet cleaning machine or a shop vac?? Can you get a new one?!

is this yours-in this recall?

Carwash. Just take it in the backseat and spray it down good about once a week.

Set it against a wall and turn the sprayer on low for the first few minutes until you get the feel for the sprayer. The seat area will backwash on to your face if you hit it just right so be careful. Rinsing it well is a plus since you don't want your little one sitting on soap residue.

Carseats are worse. They have pee and other fun stuff in the seat crack. Old food chunks, eeeewwwweeee. It is super gross when it backwashes. This is also good so you don't have to take the seat cover apart, wash it in the washing machine, dry it, then try to figure out how it came off.

If it's fabric instead of plastic I would not keep it after this child unless it is still in fantastic shape.

Hi M.-

I don't know...it has been a few years since my high chair days...

BUT...

I often would COMPLETELY take apart a high chair (meaning any screw that would UN screw on the chair frame...NOT the tray)...and I would take it outside and power wash...let dry...and re assemble.

I will say...that when my 'olders' got bigger, I invested in two of those restaurant type wooden seats that 'slide' right up to the table...leaving the high chair for a 'younger'.

BUT...even those wooden puppies got a 'hose' down outside.

Best luck!

If you have a yard take it outside and hose it down. Let it dry in the sun after using old towels to blot the moisture. I've done that with car seats and such in mild weather.
